Valerie
"Raiden still hasn't asked you to the dance?" Jessi asks incredulously. "Its three days away!"
"Told you he's no good." Elliot mutters, stabbing a potato.
"Will you two relax?" I ask tiredly. "It's not a big deal."
"Uh, actually, it kind of is if y'all are a supposed couple." She replies, snapping her fingers in front of my face.
"Stop that!" I shriek, swatting her hand away.
"You guys aren't even a real couple." Elliot laughs. "I mean, you see each other every day you have school but you guys only text and talk on the phone and hang out when no one can spot you guys"
I decide not to grace his comment with a reply and focus my attention on my salad instead.
We sit in silence for a few more minutes before the bell goes to signal the end of lunch. Hastily, I grab my empty plate, tossing it in a nearby trash can before heading to my locker. Quickly switching out my books, I head into the library for study hall. With my last exams for the term looming closer, I have to study.
About half an hour goes by with me finishing up my English essay and reading for the papers I have on Friday when I feel my phone vibrate. Ever so subtly, I inch it out of my pocket and sure enough, it's Raiden.
Sighing, I push back my hair as softly as possible, grab my book bag and head out the school doors. Raiden sends me a text saying he'll be at the parking lot so that's exactly where I go, moving briskly to avoid getting caught.
"Hey." He smiles, opening up his passenger door for me.
"Hi" I reply, returning his smile.
Without so much as offering any explanation, Raiden gets behind the wheel and begins to back his car out of the parking lot.
"How have you been?"
"I've been okay." I reply, chewing on my bottom lip nervously. "How have you been?"
"Been alright." He says, making a bend.
"Uh, where are we headed?"
"You'll see." He replies. Ever so subtly, he takes a hand off the steering wheel, slipping mine into it. I can't help the stupid grin that plasters itself on my face as I let out a breath, heart rate picking up.
We drive on in silence for a few minutes before a stretch of green comes into view and realization hits me.
"The park?" I ask, eyes widening incredulously.
"Yeah." He replies sheepishly. Unbuckling his seat belt and reaching for a blanket in the back seat, he comes around to open the door for me. "It's nice and secluded this time of day and I thought maybe we could spend some time together."
