Genesis
It was my first day of school yesterday and it had been overwhelming.
On the Sunday before resumption, Kody had to go back to school, leaving me to face the cruel cruel world that is Madison west high alone.
Just kidding; it wasn't so bad. I mean their homeroom is way better than my previous ones back home and the people were all nice.
My first class had been biology which as you know, I love. When I walked in, Mrs. Carpenter, my teacher informed me that I have a pre assigned seat and would have to partner up with whoever is sat next to me for the rest of the semester. All the way to my seat, I pray, pray, prayed I wouldn't get someone who would make my life difficult and yes, my prayer was answered.
I think.
So I sat at my seat yeah, just people watching and whatnot. There was this girl a few ways down from me who looked just about ready to strangle the girl seating next to her. They probably don't like each other much. Then there was the really hot boy whom I'd spotted in homeroom earlier. I hope he's nice. A lot of chattering was going on and I spotted lots of different people but those two stuck out to me.
A few minutes later, the most handsome Puerto Rican looking guy takes the seat right next to me. He has pretty brown eyes and wears his hair in a Zayn Malik type undercut.
"Hi." He says, addressing me. "I'm Sebastian."
My stomach inwardly erupts in a swarm of butterflies as I smile. "Genesis." I reply.
He looks like he wants to say something else but just then, the teacher begins talking and so for the remainder of the class, we both concentrate on our work.
For the next forty minutes I try my best not to be distracted by Sebastian and just really pay attention to Mrs. Carpenter who tutors us on infectious diseases.
She makes us do this breathing thing for emphysema and it made me sad to think I'm here right now, living a life of privilege, so to speak while others are out there, struggling with several health problems and whatnot. It just feels wrong, you know?
"Genesis." Sebastian says, stopping me in the hallway after class. "Do you know how to find your next class?"
"Not really." I shrug. "But I'll be fine."
At least I hope so.
"Let's see your schedule." He says and I hand it to him. "You have Chemistry next and that's where I'm headed. You should come with."
Thank goodness!
"Oh, okay. Sure. Thanks." I smile as he hands my schedule back to me. Over in the corner I spot that girl from earlier again; the one who seemed to be having issues with her biology partner. She's with the hottie but she doesn't look too good.
Maybe they're a couple? I mean they sat down together at homeroom as well. Along with another girl who has similar features to this boy.
I hope she's okay though.
"It's nothing." Sebastian smirks, drawing my attention back to him as we begin walking. "Nice eyes by the way."
"Thanks." I blush. I mean my friends and family always used to gush about how nice they are but to have someone else who's not in the inner circle compliment it is another thing.
We both make small talk as we walk down the hall and he turns out to be a pretty decent guy to say the least.
When Chemistry is over, he helps me find my next class before sauntering off to his. This school seems okay in respect to staff. I mean, they teach pretty good.
Plus, they have lots of nice students. In French, I made a new friend as well. I mean, it's not like I was planning to but he accidentally tripped over my book bag which I'd placed on the floor next to my desk and nearly face planted on the ground.
I'd apologized over and over but he just shrugged it off and ended up taking the seat next to me which was conveniently empty. We talked for the duration of the period while doing our work; making sure to keep our voices low. His name's Holden and he's really good with Languages. He helped me a couple of times with my work.
After French, I had psychology and we learned about personalities which started out really cool. We had to write five of our character traits which was also pretty easy.
Mrs. Sanders says that there are many ways to measure personality but that scientists have mostly given up on trying to divide humanity neatly into types. We're probably just too complex.
Instead, they focus on personality traits. She taught us an acronym 'OCEAN' to help us remember the big five. They're the most widely accepted personality traits.
The O stands for Openness which is actually shorthand for 'openness to experience'. Apparently, people who are high in openness experience adventure. They love to experience new things while those who aren't, stick to the 'same old same old.' They usually just avoid new experiences and change in general.
The C represents Conscientiousness and people who are conscientious are really organized. They're usually dependable, disciplined and achievement focused. The people who are low in conscientiousness, they're more spontaneous and freewheeling. Sometimes, they tend towards carelessness.
E stands for Extraversion and Mrs. Sanders says this is probably the most recognizable trait in people. I agree with her because you can almost always tell if someone is an introvert or extrovert.
The A represents Agreeableness and measure's the extent of a person's warmth and kindness. The more agreeable a person is, the more likey they are to be trusting, helpful and compassionate while disagreeable people are mostly cold and suspicious.
I'd like to think I'm quite agreeable.
The final letter is the N which connotes Neuroticism or the tendency of a person to worry and to easily slip into anxiety and depression. People who are low in neuroticism tend to be more emotionally stable; probably just like me. Not that I'm trying to brag or anything.
I probably just made you bored talking about all that but I find it really exciting. For the duration of the period I tried to figure out all my friends back home using the big five and even changed the acronym up from 'OCEAN' to 'CANOE'. Not that that's important or anything.
Okay, get this. After Psychology, Sebastian was waiting for me at my locker. How he found it I have no idea which irked me out a bit but he invited me to have lunch with him and his friends so I obliged. I didn't have a better plan anyway.
His friends were really fun. That other girl, the one who I thought would be strangled was there as well. Her name is Kourtney and apparently, she's known Sebastian since they were in middle school. She doesn't seem so bad. Plus, she's really good looking.
We laughed and talked but I think it's safe to say that I'll forever be cooking up excuses not to hang out with them. They're not my kind of people. I don't know what it is about them but they make me feel a tad bit uneasy.
