Chapter 7

"Rylee!" I yell as I run up behind her. "Sams! I've been looking for you!" She responds. "Jacob isn't talking to me!" I complain. "I figured." She says rolling her eyes. "Rylee, what happened?" I ask nervously. "This girl came up to me and said that you and Carter were holding hands, she said you were cheating on Jacob with Carter. She wanted me to help her spread the rumor, I said no." She explains. A rush comes through me. "I need to go find Jacob!" I say. "He's at the cafeteria already." She tells me. "Okay." I say as I start running as fast as I can to the cafeteria. I run threw the doors and turn left seeing Jacob sitting with Carter and he is obviously mad. I jog over and sit down. "Jacob talk to me." I plead. "Why don't you talk to him." He points over to Carter who's face is full of shock. "I'm not cheating on you with Carter." I say. He ignores me and looks at his phone. "It's just a rumor! Ask him!" I demand getting angrier by the second. "Oh, well. Carter how do you feel about stealing MY girlfriend?" He says rudely. "Jacob, it's not like that. There's nothing going on between me and Samantha." He tries explaining. "Mkayy whatever." Jacob says rolling his eyes. "You know what? If you don't believe me ask your best friend. Here she is now!" I say dramatically pointing to Rylee as I leave the cafeteria.
I start walking back to the school not wanting to eat when I get a text from Carter.

I'm sorry. For everything.

Is all it said. I don't reply I just kept walking. I end up getting a call from Hayes.

S- yes?

H- you might wanna come to the cafeteria.

S- Uhm why?

H- Rylee just got in a fight with Jacob because the way he treated you. She ended up slapping him and he went off on her.

S- is she okay?

S- never mind. I'll be right there.

I hang up and run as fast as I can back to the cafeteria. I run throw the doors and turn to see Hayes yelling at Jacob and Carter over something as Rylee is in her own little corner trying not to cry as people race over to her asking what's wrong. "What the heck are you guys doing!" I demand. Everyone's eyes bolt toward mine. "Sammy, we're over. My friendship with all of you is over!" He yells pointing to Me, Hayes, Carter and last Rylee. "You do anything like that again, you'll be over." Hayes threatened. He walks over to Rylee and grabs her hand tugging on her to follow. Once they get to Carter she grabs his hand and he grabs mine. "We can't split up." Rylee says looking down. "Rylee, what did he say." I ask her quietly. "He said he was using me for popularity and because his parents told him to. He threatened to tell my secret about before I was dating Hayes." She explains. "What happened before you were dating Hayes?" I ask curiously. "Well, everyone else knows now. So, I guess I will just tell you." She pauses. "Before I was dating Hayes, I had a huge crush on him. Everything I said would be about him. One day he finally talked to me and I told Jacob. I literally started crying because I was so happy." She says taking a deep breath. "Now everyone knows I'm just some crazy girl." she says trying not to cry. Hayes comes up behind her and hugs her. "It's okay." He whispers. "I'm sorry." She says to me. "I'm sorry I ruined you and Jacob and all of our friendships." She says crying. "Rylee it isn't your fault." I try saying. "Yes it is! I could have told everyone it was fake. They would have listened to me and this wouldn't have happened." We all come in and hug her. I hate that she put it on herself. I'm not upset about Jacob he's a jerk and doesn't deserve me. That's what Rylee would have told me. We all stand there hugging each other in the cold weather which kept us all warm.
