Carl Grimes: For Maddie

Carl and I were racing, I glanced behind me. Haha, yes!! I was beating Carl!

“In your face!!” I called out.

"Shut up!" He shouted back.

  Suddenly I tripped over a walker's arm, it started to reach out and it grabbed my leg; its mouth coming closer and closer to my skin. Just as I was about to stab it, I heard a gunshot, I look back to see Carl running up to me.

“Are you okay?” he asked, kneeling next to me with a worried expression.

“I didn’t need to be saved you know.” I said, rolling my eyes.

  Carl grinned and pulled me to my feet. He threw his arm around me…I felt butterflies in my stomach… I had started to realize that I liked Carl. Really liked, but I knew he had his eye on someone else. Probably Beth. We walked back up to the prison. When we got there Michone was waiting at the door.

 “I’m going on a run. Are you coming with me?“ Michone asked.

I looked at Carl, in that one look he let me know what he was thinking.

“Sure we’ll come” I replied.

She walked towards the car and we followed her. I sat down in the back with Carl.  He smiled at me, took my hand and squeezed it. Okay, Carl puts his arm around me all the time but this- this was a new thing. I looked at my feet and blushed furiously, I bite my cheek hoping that would save me the embarrassment of the situation. Much to my discontent, Michonne saw me blushing and smiled a tiny bit. She was kinda like my older sister, she sympathize with me. We had both been through the came things. Both our parents had been bitten.

 We arrived at an abandoned building.

"I'll take the bottem level you guys take the top." Michonne said. We obeyed and headed to the top floor.

 When we got there I asked “Left or right?”

 Carl didn’t even respond, I looked over to him in annoyance then realized he had been staring at me. As soon as we locked eyes he looked away and blushed slightly.

"Right looks like their might be more stuff but left looks like there might be less walkers.” I said, pretending that I hadn’t noticed the whole staring thing.

 “I’d say left, less walkers the better, right?l” he replied.  I notched an arrow and he loaded his gun then we headed to the left. We shot a few walker heads then pushed them aside.  We continued walking.  Carl found a few cans of fruit so we grabbed them and kept walking. Smashed more dead guy faces then it became like a rhythm. Shoot, push, shoot, push. We went inside a room that was clear of walkers and started searching it. I found some canned goods and stuffed them into my messenger bag. I looked over to Carl and signaled to him that it was time to go.

 “So hey, I’ve been wanting to ask you something for a while but this whole apocalypse thing makes it a little confusing. Anyway, uh…I just wanted to say that I kinda like you. I mean, not kinda I completely like you, I- never mind. And I was wondering if you want to go on a date or something sometime?” Carl stumbled awkwardly.

 “It’s okay if you don’t- “Suddenly, he pushed his lips against mine cutting off his own words. I put my arms around his neck and Carl’s arms snake around my waist. We pulled back slowly at the same time

“Of course you idiot. I’d love to.“ I replied smiling.

But then a stupid walker had to ruin the moment, it came towards us from behind Carl. I let go of Carl and lunged at the walker, grabbing the knife I kept by my thigh. I pushed it against the wall and stabbed it in the head. It slumped back against the wall.

 “I didn’t need to be saved you know.” Carl laughed, mocking me and rolling his eyes. I shoved his shoulder and had to do everything in my power not to roll my eyes. Then Michone called for us to come back to the car. As we were walking back to the car Carl took my hand and entwined our fingers. On the ride back he smiled the whole time. As I rested my head on his shoulder, he started to play with my hair. You know, in the midst of an apocalypse it’s hard to get any sleep but with Carl by my side I felt safe and sleeping was as easy as counting to 3.
