Natsu was pacing back and forth. It was going on 6:30 and he had to leave soon to get to Gray's house by 7:00. Natsu figured walking there would be best. The town was always so quiet in the evening.
With one last look in the mirror Natsu decided to head off, leaving the kitchen light on just in case. He took out his phone and texted Lucy one more time.
I'm heading over there now...
I'm rooting for Natsu! and I'll check on you every half hour okay?
Yeah I got it...
Natsu strolled along the side walk keeping and eye out for Gray's address. He took his mind off the whole situation for a few minutes and enjoyed the feeling of wind on his face and in his hair.
'I should plan a camping trip soon.'
Natsu truely loved being outdoors. It reminded him of all his happy days with his father. They used to go hunting and fishing together. Even some pleasent picnics with Mirajane and her deliciouse spiced salmon were brought to mind. On second thought, maybe he was just hungry.
*~*~*~*At Gray's*~*~*~*
Gray put down his book and looked at the time. Natsu would be there soon and he decided to set up the final touches for their movie night.
"Okay... Movies, check. Extra pillows and blankets, check. Aunt busy in her office..." Gray snuck in front of her office door and peeked inside. Ur was nose deep in a book on anatomical science.
"Check"
Gray was ready. The butterflies in his stomache wouldn't stop. He still couldn't believe it. Natsu is coming over to his house. He paced around his room waiting for the doorbell to ring.
'6:58. Two more minutes. I'm a nervous wreck. Alright Gray just calm down. Just focus on something else.'
Gray pictured himself in the mountains snuggled in a blanket next to a fire place. He watched the flames dance and they slowly went from a glowing orange to a bright red. Then the red died down to a soft pink. Then the brightness that was once a fire was a small dreamy smile. The flames turned into hair and before Gray knew it he was staring at Natsu.
Ding ding!
Gray was pulled from his daydream. He ran downstairs to the front door. He took a moment to straighten himself out and opened the door.
" H-hi Gray" Natsu stuttered.
One look at Natsu and Gray's heart stopped. Natsu was standing in front of him looking so adorable. He cheeks and nose were a rosey pink that nearly matched his hair. His scarf was wrapped snuggly around his face and the red hoodie he wore went over his hands and down to his thighs. Gray was paralyzed. He wanted to scoope Natsu up into a hug and spoil him rotten for the rest of his life.
"Um... Gray?" Natsu was nervous. He had never been stared at so intensely. He could feel his blush growing even more. Natsu started to shiver. He was always one to get cold easily and even though it was only the begining of fall, he felt freezing.
"Oh! I-i'm sorry. Please, come in. I'm glad you could make it." Gray said leading Natsu into the house
"Thanks f-for having me." Natsu shyly followed Gray into his home. He took his time looking at all of furniture and decore. The walls were decorated with pictures of, what Natsu assumed, was Gray's family.
"So, I have a bunch of movies we could watch. I didn't know which kind you prefer but I thought you could pick whichever one you like" Gray said as they entered his room. Natsu blushed and utterted out a small 'sure'.
Gray gestured over to his pile of movies, hinting that Natsu could pick one out now. Natsu knelt on the floor and shuffled through dozens of movies.
'Wow he wasn't kidding when he said he had good movies!' Natsu gasped as he found an old favorite if his. His face lit up and looked over to Gray, who was watching him in... amazement?
"You picked a movie?" Gray questioned and walked iver to Natsu. Natsu handed him the movie almost reluctant to let it go.
"The Last Mimzy? Huh, I didn't think anybody else knew about this movie"
"I-i-it's an old favorite of mine. I was surprised to see you had it." Natsu replied, speaking softly and avoiding eye conctact. Gray blushed slightly and looked away.
"It's one of my favorites too." Natsu started. He couldn't beleive what was happening.
"Hey d-do you want to make snacks before we start the movie?" Gray had to break the awkard tension. What better way to do it than with food! Natsu slowly nodded and followed Gray into the kitchen.
"Help yourself to anything you find! I have tons of good snacks!" Gray then went on to pull out a bag of microwave popcorn. Natsu looked around and found a huge bag of hot cheetos! Yum!
Gray's popcorn had just finished and poured it all into a grand bowl. Natsu watched him curiously as Gray made his way back to the pantry for something else.
"Gotcha! And now for the finishing touch!" Gray began to sprinkle raisins over his popcorn! Natsu couldn't believe his eyes.
'Could this guy get any better!?!'
"Y-you do that too?" Gray stopped in his tracks and looked over at Natsu.
"What?"
"Put raisins in your popcorn..."
"Yeah, I do. I like it. It's like a salty sweet kind of thing"
"Same!" Natsu had gotten excited for a moment, but then shrunk back into himself. Gray was making a list in his head.
'He likes sci-fi fantasy and popcorn with raisins! I wonder if there is anything else we have in common?'
" Cool! I'll make some extra then!"
Gray made another bag of popcorn and added even more raisins to it. After cleaning uo they bith went back upstairs to Gray's room to start the movie.
They were all cozy sitting next to eachother wrapped in blankets and pillows. They munched on their snacks, sharing the giant bowl of popcorn and raisins. Gray tried to focus on the movie but his continued to wander over to Natsu's face, noticing the smallest flecks of gold in his green eyes. He seemed so relaxed and not as on edge when he first arrived. Gray was glad that Natsu felt relaxed around him.
Natsu had forgotten all about his nerves. He forgot all about Lucy texting him and his paranoia seemed to have vanished. He hadn't felt so at ease in weeks. The tiredness if his body and heart began to catch up with him. Natsu began to feel drowsy as he watched Emma say goodbye to Mimzy. Before he knew it he had passed out.
Gray felt Natsu fall over on him. He went to ask Natsu if he was okay, but he found him sleeping so peacfully, he couldn't bring himself to wake him up.
"Natsu" he whispered.
"What are you doing to me? You are so beautiful. I want to be by your side forever." Gray brushed some hair out of Natsu's face and planted a kiss on his forehead.
"I love you"
