Shannon's P.O.V.

"Leave her be Cookie. Just clean her up a bit and that'll be perfect." He tells the women as he leaves. I try to lift my head up from the side of the chair but everything is off kilter for me and I can't focus on much.

"Wow, you must've really made an impression." She comes over with a glass of water in her hand. She helps me sip it down.

Once it's gone I lift my head to meet her eyes "what's his name?" I ask.

She shrugs before leaning down to untie my other foot "just know him as the boss, sir, lord.." She trails off. "He's never came to see someone before the ceremony. What is it about?" She asks as she walks me to a sink.

My mouth hangs open and she turns the faucet on to wash my hair. I don't even have words forming in my head to explain anything to her. "Just, just about the past." I finally get out.

"Hmm." Is all she returns with as she scrubs my head. I keep my eyes closed trying to piece together he information I was told.

As Cookie starts blow drying my hair I hear an explosion and the small home shakes. "What the?" She stops, lowering the blow dryer on the edge of the table. She takes the knife out from her belt and takes a few steps away from me. I slowly move to grab the hair dryer off the table unplugging it quietly. Gunfire begins to go off in the distance and I need to strike now. I grab the handle of the dryer and as I do she turns around "what are you..." She tries to get out but I smash the dryer hard against her skull. She falls to the ground quickly, hitting her head against the wall as she goes down.

"Cooks?" I hear someone knock on the door "we're under attack we should go now if-" The door opens and as soon as the female comes into the room I smash her head with the dryer and she stumbles back. After hitting her I realize that it is the doctor, and she then stumbles forward, reaching for her gun in her waistband. I get to it first though, stretching my arm forward and pointing it at her. "Do it." She pleads, blood coming from her head. I just stare at her, not sure what I want to do with her right now. She gasps when she looks over and sees cookie on the floor. Her hand flies to her face as tears fill her eyes "is she-- is she dead?" She asks shaking.

"No. Should just be unconscious." I say back. I eye her differently now "were you two..?" I ask trailing off.

"Yes." She sighs out, fighting going to her side.

"Go" I wave the gun to the side to indicate it's okay. She rushes to her side and holds her head in her lap. "I'm surprised he allows a relationship between you two." I say.

She shakes her head "he doesn't. We hide it from the others. It's not easy but it's worth it." She strokes her face. Cookie hums out a little at her touch and although she threatened to kill me, I'm relieved she's not dead. "I was coming to get her, so we could leave here, try to get out."

"You want to get out?" I push further. Both of them have jobs here, they look to be healthy and in good standing.

"This place is hell on earth. We don't want to be a part of it. We've been waiting for the right moment and now-- now I don't know if we'll ever get that chance." She keeps her eyes down on her lover.

"What's going on out there?" I ask.

She tilts her head up a little "someone attacked the back wall, just blew a hole in it. He went out with the guards to find who did it and the front is barely manned right now. It was our best chance" tears continue to fall down her face.

I sigh, trying to bite my tongue from saying what I'm about to say "we'll go together." I lower the gun into the back of my pants, covering it with my shirt.

"You-- you want to help me? Us?" She questions skeptically.

I shrug getting to their side "stronger in numbers." I say bending down to help her get Cookie off the floor. "But if you try anything, even just once, you're on your own." I inform her as we rest her along our shoulders.

She stirs just a little and looks to the doctor "what's going on?" She questions.

"We are getting out of here," she tells her "together." She adds when she turns her head to look at me.

"Sorry." I mumble not truly feeling that way. I identify everyone in here as a threat, including her, and I did what I needed to do to get out. "Let's get out of here." I say to them and we go towards the door.

"We have to be quick, they can be back any minute." the doctor, who introduced herself as Petra says.

"How many at the front?" I ask as we stay close to a wall, dark smoke filling the community.

"Two, possibly three or four now. 4 left to go into the woods. I was able to snatch the gun but couldn't get my hand on any keys for a car." She tells me.

Cookie is now able to walk on her own, she's a bit wobbly so Petra helps and we get a stones throw away from the front gate. "That's fine, I can Hotwire one. You know where we can find one?"

"Yah." She informs me.

I nod and explain the plan "Cookie's gonna go out over there, scream out for help, be injured, when they can see you fall down in pain. Petra you are going to run over to them, tell them you have to get the injured to your office, tell them the boss was burned on the way out and he needs back up on the field and he sent you to tell them. they'll probably leave one behind and I'll take care of them. When they come down to head out and help you get to cookie and help her up, send them ahead then get your asses to the front. I'll have it open and we'll haul ass.

Petra shakes her head "no, that won't work. He would never send me to get them, they'd never buy it. There must be another way!" I can see her search her brain for other ideas.

"You have to make them believe. You were just attacked and he's probably furious, you need to get them to believe you. All our lives depend on it." I reinforce her "and we're doing this, we're doing this now!" I demand, knowing the window of opportunity is fading.

Petra and Cookie kiss one another before Cookie leaves first. She back tracks into the smoke and soon we see her stumbling forward calling out in pain. Petra takes a deep breathe and quickly jogs to the watch tower. She fades quickly out of sight with the smoke and I wait only a minute before following her foot steps. I stay low to the ground once near the fence, trying to listen to the conversation over all the gun fire. None of the men in the tower are watching the front right now as they talk with Petra and shoot towards the back of the compound. My heart beats quickly with my hand on the gun, ready to shoot if necessary. "Where are they?" I hear a man ask as foot steps from the tower get closer.

"South end of the compound, can't be too far out from here. Boss was brought back quickly, he wants whoever is responsible for this taken in alive before he's out of my office." Petra lies to them.

"Better get those fuckers quick!" A different voice says and they all jog right past me, not even looking to see what the door hit. As they head into the smoke I slide around the back of the door and slowly walk up the steps. I take it a foot at a time, barely letting it touch to listen for sounds around me. Before I can get to the top I hear a gun shot go off close by and a thud right above me. I pause for a few seconds waiting for more but nothing happens. I creep up the steps a bit faster now and there's a body on the floor, a bullet wound through his head. I look around but see no one. I quickly get to his body and grab the set of keys. I run back down the stairs and open the locked fence just as Petra and Cookie emerge from the smoke "hurry!" I call to them and I shut the gate behind me, locking in it to buy some extra time. "Where do we go from here?" I ask scanning around. I have no idea where we are but I want to get as far away as possible.

"This way!" She points in a direction and I follow her forward.
