Money has always been a struggle for my family. We only spend what we have to. If they send me away they get $1,000. But they always say family comes first, no matter what. Mom keeps reassuring me that it would be ok, but that's doing nothing to calm my jumpy nerves.
Our group of neighbors formed a small crowd. Then I see her limo drive up and we all fall silent. It looks so out of place with its shiny windows and gold trim. A man in a fancy suit opened the door and helped her step out.
She looked stunning! She's wearing a flowing coral coloured dress that reaches her ankles, with gold flowers swirling around her neck and down the back. Her shining blonde hair is braided neatly and crowned her head. She barely wears any makeup- she doesn't have to.
"Hello! I'm sure you all know why I'm here, so let's get started!" She laughed, her overly cheery voice ringing in my ears. Another man in a suit handed her some papers. She looks at them for a minute then speaks. "Alright then, 2 registered A.S. Please step forward". She smiled.
2? I thought I was the only one. Mom gently uses her hand to lead me to the front of the crowd. "Name?" Tabatha didn't stop smiling. "Clarity Green" Mom answers shakily. "Right, are you donating or disowning?" She flashes her pearly white teeth. Mom said something so quiet a bat probably couldn't hear it. "What was that?" Tabatha's sickly sweet voice asks. "Donating".
   I stop breathing.
   I misheard. I had to.
   My breathing got heavy.
Tabatha pulls me forward. Casper and Cara hug me tight, crying. "It's ok" my voice broke. Dad pries them off me. He won't look me in the eye.
They actually chose to send me away. They chose money over family. As if to prove my point, Tabatha hands over a stack of cash to mom. She smiles gratefully. She was happy?!?! She was practically sending me to my death! I realise I'm crying.
I search the crowd as Tabatha calls the next person. Now I've tuned out everyone. My heart almost stops in my chest as I see who just emerged from the crowd.

It was Kelsey.
