Rydel⬆️

A bell rang on the intercom speaker, indicating dinner. My stomach growled in annoyance. We had just got back from working and with no lunch break, I'm starving! Everyone's face lit up as they filed out the door.
Everyone but me. I ran my mouth again today, so I got restricted from dinner. I lay on my floor spot, trying to keep warm.
"You too?" A voice startled me. I shot up. A girl with short dark brown hair smiled at me. "I'm Rydel". I motioned for her to sit with me. "I'm Clarity. You're the only person other than Braylon who's talked to me. It's nice". She sat next to me and nodded. "That's how it is here. It just gets more crowded, and purple pretty much keep to themselves".
My stomach growled. I haven't eaten since 6am. "I read somewhere that humming takes your mind off things. Wanna try?" She suggested. I quickly agreed. Now I'm willing to try anything.
So we started humming. We hummed everything, from modern jams to theme songs to Christmas tunes. After "Jingle Bell Rock" we stopped. "I'm all hummed out!" We laughed.
Just then, Braylon walked in. I looked up, surprised. He tossed us each a dinner roll. "So he's not a robot!" I thanked him gratefully. I took a big bite. "Just because I follow the rules doesn't mean I'm a robot" he rolls his eyes. "I have to go back now. Don't cause trouble". We waved goodbye as he left.
"He does have a heart!" I exclaimed. The roll left a warm taste in my mouth. Rydel nodded. "Sometimes" she licked her lips, eating all the crumbs. "Ever since I got here he's acted like a robot. Following orders. Doesn't he want to rebel?" I don't know how anyone can just go along with Tabatha.
I savoured the taste of butter in my mouth. She shrugged towards me. "Maybe. But maybe he just doesn't want to be punished". I scoffed. "It would be so worth it to get out of here". Rydel laughed. "You're spunky" she smiled "I like it".
Just then the others came in from dinner. "Night, Clarity". She went back to her floor spot. I lay back down and close my eyes. I let myself drift off to the best place in the world. Sleep.
