Chapter Five

Objective Point of View
It was white.
He lay on the white bed in a white gown, his skin sickly white. His arms were riddled with white bandages and the white line of the heart monitor in the underground doctor's makeshift emergency room spiked with each beat. It was at a slower pace than a healthy person's heart rate would be.
People filtered in and out of the room
as the hours passed. It was usually Shinra, but on occasion others visited, disbelief apparent on their faces as they discovered the state of the untouchable information broker.

Shizuo's Point of View
"That damn flea. That damn flea! THAT DAMN FLEA! What was he thinking? If hacking away at his own skin wasn't enough for him, he then goes far enough to end up half dead on a table," Shizuo grumbled as he trudged throughout the city. People avoided him in fear of an angry attack, but those who really knew him could see he was more nervous than anything. What was going to to come of Izaya? He received the call from Shinra that he was unconscious due to blood loss last night just a few hours after his encounter with the information broker. There was a possibility that he wasn't going to live. He would have been dead by now if it hadn't been for Namie. Shizuo growled and punched an unsuspecting wall when the pressure inside became too much, but he wasn't angry. He felt guilty.

Back at Shinra's he checked on the flea in the white room knowing he would find only a sleeping form but wanting to be certain. He decided to take a place on the couch for the evening rather than wandering the streets; he was apt to find trouble. Shinra and Celty had taken a night out for themselves--which to him seemed asinine given the condition of Ikebukuro's most infamous information broker, but who was Shizuo to judge--and he figured someone ought to be there in case Izaya happened to wake up.

Izaya's Point of View
Dark. It was dark, probably midnight or later. There weren't any windows so there wasn't any light. The beeping of a heart monitor was the only sound in the room, it's tone the same as last time. The very thought of Izaya's last stay here in Shinra's 'hospital' caused his heart to race and his gut to twist with anxiety.
Not again.
He had landed himself at Shinra's for a second time. Shit. He knew this time he wasn't going to get off easily, Shinra promised him that much.
He disconnected the heart monitor from his finger. The long, sustained flatline sounded, and Izaya simply shut the monitor off with a sigh.
At least here there aren't any cuffs or alarms when you try to so much as move.
I got up to get something to drink, slightly disoriented coming out of the odd little "emergency room" as I had only personally been there a handful of times. Navigating in the dark apartment proved to be challenging so I followed the soft light source coming from who knows where.
I found myself in Shinra's expansive living room, the light of his television had been my guide. It was odd that Shinra had left it on when he was nowhere in sight.
I continued to make my way to the kitchen for a glass of water only to find light peeking out from under the door.
As I opened the door I saw Shizuo, but I didn't register that it was him until I was pulled into him. He wrapped his arms around me and was grabbing the thin gown tightly in his fists, holding me as if I would disappear if he loosened his grip. His hold was tight, almost too tight, but there was comfort in it, a warmth I hadn't felt in forever, one I had forgotten even existed. He pulled my head against his chest and rested his chin on my head.
He was shaking.
"I thought you were dead," he mumbled as though his breathing was restricted.
Izaya mentally scoffed, why would he care?

A/N-First of all, I'm sorry about the odd POV's, I thought a lot of this chapter flowed better in different vantage points than just Izaya's heh.
So I have a pretty good map of where the story is going to go, and it's going to be fairly long--at least longer than originally planned. I hope you all enjoy and get comfortable because there is more coming your way. Also I've begun using pictures for the chapters provided I have one that applies. I hope you enjoy :)
