Dino Squad: 2nd Generation {Dino Squad Fanfic}

CH 5 PT 1

A few weeks after the fiasco at school, our four heroes finally managed to settle in. They were sitting around in the lighthouse, doing homework (or ignoring it, in one certain genetically engineered boy's case), when Max burst in, causing Lizzy to fall off the couch, just like the last time someone burst in. You'd think people would learn how to knock, but of course not. Hardly anyone listened in this chaotic lighthouse.

"Dino mutants! A lot of them, too." Max announced. "Buzz, you are going with Sam and Kris; Fiona, you are with Lizzy and Artemis. The rest of us will take care of the others." Buzz rolled his eyes in laziness and shut off the game, grabbing the two boys as he passed them. They went down the stares, the protests of Kris heard the entire way.

Artemis stood up, smashing her palm and fist together. She smirked. "I'm all fired up," she said, her aura reaching a new level of competitiveness. Lizzy smiled and got off the couch. She took Artemis' hand and led her down the stairs to Fiona and the bikes. When they reached them, she was already setting the guys up with their bikes. Fiona saw them and sauntered over, tossing them their keys and helmets. They nodded. When they were all ready, Fiona set the coordinates up on their bikes and they nodded.

A few minutes into the ride, and Artemis and Kris were already in a competition for who could do the coolest tricks while going 50 mph. "Artemis, you just got out of the hospital," Kris teased. "You should be in bed!" Artemis growled.

"That was a few weeks ago, Kristina!" She revved her engine, doing a handstand on the bike. "Besides, I can outdo you any day of the week. Even sick days." They were still at it when it came time for the groups splitting up. They had reached their destination and literally had to pull the squabbling pair away.

"Shush!" Fiona hissed. "You'll scare it away!" Artemis snorted.

"Nah. If it's really that big, I'm sure that not even Sam in dino mode could make it flinch."

Lizzy's eyes widened. "It's big?" She squeaked, fear eating her confidence away faster than cake at a buffet. Fiona touched her shoulder, smiling gently.

"No worries, Squirt. You'll do just fine. We won't let it get you," she said encouragingly. Lizzy nodded feebly and looked up at Artemis, who had her hand clenched into a fist, representing confidence. Lizzy smiled a bit and calmed down.

Buzz broke his team's awkward silence.

"Is it weird?" When he gained confused looks from the boys, he repeated himself. "Sleeping with them, I mean."

"In what way?"

"Well, they're girls that you seem to have known for a long time. And they're girls." Buzz said, shrugging slightly. Sam gave him a confused look.

"What difference does it make that they're girls? Either way Kris still sleeps like a starfish and that is not going to change if he's sharing his bed with a boy, a girl, or nobody," he said, earning a 'I'm-going-to-strangle-you' look from Kris.

"Dude. That's not information that anyone needs to know," he hissed. They both were obviously ignorant of the phrase 'sleep with'. Eggplant Head wisely kept this PG and didn't elaborate on it. He gained many thanks from the authors.

"Have you ever sworn in front of Lizzy?" Buzz asked, receiving yet another confused look.

"What is this?" Kris asked sarcastically. "Question time with Buzz?"

"Yes." Buzz stated, receiving a pair of rolled eyes.

"Uh yes in fact, we have." They said in unison.

"What was the oh so special occasion?" Buzz teased.

Sam's face darkened. "We don't... Like to talk about it much..." He said, Kris nodded, his face also in a downcast.

"What was the occasion?" Buzz asked, his curiosity intrigued. Kris glared.

"If you must know," he began. "It was Artemis' doing."

"Lizzy got in trouble while on a mission and we didn't find out until a few hours later when she disappeared. Artemis, after finding her, ran out of the control room all the way 137 miles to where she was. In near exhaustion, she beat the kidnappers to a pulp, cursing them each hit." Sam explained.

"That is the most I've ever heard you say," Buzz said, legitimate surprise capturing his face.

Kris chuckled softly. "First time we had ever seen her legitimately angry." Sam hesitated, giving a small shake of the head before quickly nodding in agreement. Before 'Question time with Buzz' could resume, a reflection caught their eye, meaning that Fiona's team had found it. Kris smiled. "Perfect."

They had surrounded the mutant bear, waiting for it to grow unaware of its surroundings. Artemis and Kris were the ones with medium sized dinosaurs that were well equipped to things like this -- hunting wise. They transformed and sandwiched the mutant, waiting for it to run towards the trap. Unfortunately, it ran the opposite way of the desired direction. Sam, reacting quickly, transformed and helped them funnel the mutant down to the trap. Buzz, Fiona, Kris, and Lizzy tossed the net, secured it, and froze/de-oozed it.
