Today was the day. Trip in and trip out carrying boxes and furniture into the guest bedroom of Fletcher's house. For our first year of college both Fletch and I will be staying with his parents to save on costs. The house is just a block away from campus so it's very convenient. Next year we plan on moving into our own apartment. Between scholarships and money saved up we had enough money to payoff three-fourths of our college costs. Both of us were offered jobs through Company Against Cancer or CAC which is a program that brings visitors, assistant animals, and celebrities to sick patients.
Our work includes working at home and traveling on weekends. We do presentations and tell our stories to raise money for the CAC, we do visit patients sometimes, and this coming weekend we are doing an interview with People Magazine. We both want to bring awareness about how widespread cancer is. By doing that we hope we can raise money for treatment and for our services.
After unloading the last box I collapse down on my mattress set unceremoniously on the floor. Carrying in a book I left in the car Fletch lies down next to me. "You have way too much crap Dell." He sighs dramatically, "I think my back is thrown out, I deserve compensation for my labor." I laugh at his weak theatrics and roll over and peck him on the cheek.
"That's all I get?" He says whining like a child. This time I give him a slow kiss on the lips and pull away. "Now that was a kiss." He says wiggling his eyebrows at me. "Although I don't think it was the best... maybe we should practice a little." I gave him a look and stood back up surveying the box filled room. "Now we have to unpack." I say and he gets back up to his feet. "Fine."
Unpacking was quite the ordeal. Fletch didn't really exaggerate when he said I had a lot of crap. Besides my furniture and clothes I had all sorts of knickknacks and sentimental memorabilia. While I worked diligently to finish Fletch wanted to examine everything and ask questions about every object I had brought with me. "So did this snow globe come from your trip to disney world or did your parents just buy it for you." "Does it really matter Fletch?" "Yes, Della it does." I ignored Fletch's comment and continued to work.
A little while later Fletch had gotten very quiet. Just like a little kid I knew it was never good when he got quiet. "Fletch?" I yelled. "Yeah?" He responded from my closet. "What are you doing?" After a minute of silence I turned around to see Fletch standing with my underwear and bra on over his clothes. "Am I sexy?" He asked me with a serious look on his face. "No. Get those off those are my favorite pair!" He returned to the closet laughing. A minute later his head popped out from behind the closet door. He had a devilish grin on his face. "Guess what I found?" he said grinning evilly. "I don't know Fletch." I have a good temper but today I was tired and wasn't in the mood to play his childish games.
He came out of the closet and in his hands was a lace thong. "Now this is sexy." Fletch said. "I think you should put it on." Before I could answer we were called down to dinner. I sprinted down the hall laughing as Fletcher chased me. Little beknownst to me my panties were still clutched in his hand. We flew into the kitchen to find his mom at the stove. "I thought you learned not to run in the house a long time ago Fletch." She teased. "Sorry mum." he said kissing her on the cheek.
We sat down at the table and Fletch's mum realized his younger sister was still absent. While Fletcher was outgoing and friendly his fourteen year old sister Fleur, was shy and sweet. It wasn't until just recently she warmed up to me and we began to be friends. After calling up to her again Fleur came downstairs with book in hand.
Once she entered the kitchen she stopped staring at something on the ground. Leaning over to see what it was she was looking at I saw my thong. Sitting on the kitchen floor where Fletcher had apparently dropped it. I immediately stood up my face flushed crimson, grabbed the thong and ran back upstairs with Fletcher following me.
Once we were back in my room Fletch closed the door behind him attempting to hold in laughter. "Are you kidding me right now??? This isn't funny Fletcher! I have never been so embarrassed. Oh my god your dad saw that! I can't imagine what he's thinking!"Tears welled up in my eyes. I haven't even been here for a full day and this happened. I know Fletch was playing around but... "Della, you're fine. Look I was just playing around. I'll explain that it was my fault. No big deal." I cannot believe he just said that.
He gets serious and pulls me into a hug when he sees my tears. "Della, it's fine. I'm sorry that I embarrassed you, I won't do it again. I really don't even think my dad realized what it was." After cuddling for a little bit I did let out a little chuckle about what happened. After I calmed down we decided to head back to the kitchen. It was a little awkward but his mother just gave me a sympathetic look and no one mention what had just occurred. So we shared a meal of chicken and vegetables and let the event be forgotten.

Laying in bed that night I thought about what had happened and how mortifying it was. But just before I drifted of to sleep I thought about where I was in life this past year and realized just how thankful I was to be around for embarrassing moments like these. I thought about how wonderful it was to be here and just how amazing it is to have a future ahead that holds many great things.
