"Nys? Nyssa, wake up, seriously! Nyssa this is important!" I woke up to the sound of my best friend Kal speaking into my ear urgently,

"Uughh, what is it Kal? Work doesn't start until eight?!" I moaned checking my watch.

"Nyssa, its importa-"

"What is?"

"Nys..."

"Kal just tell me! What could be so important that you wake me at 5:00am?"

"Nyssa I'm just supposed to get you there I'm not allowed to te-"

"Kal, just tell me" I interrupted, demanding to know.

"Oh for heavens- Nyssa..... they....the Rippers.... They've found him."

I sat bolt upright in bed. No. They can't have.

"Be down in 10 minutes okay?" Kal said gently as he left the room closing he creaky door behind him.

My head was spinning with questions. How could the Rippers have found him in such a short time when I had spent the best part of two and a half years looking for him? The Rippers were what we called the peacekeepers, the people who controlled our town, kin of like police, they basically controlled our lives. God only knows what they will do to him, after he ran away like that, that's punishable by death.

I got out of bed and washed my face, got dressed and braided back my hair. Taking a deep breath I walked down the stairs to where I found Kal had made me some breakfast. I stumbled as I almost passed out, and he dropped what he was doing and came to help me, catching me as I fell.

"Woah there easy tiger," he urged, as he sat me in a chair "shhh... its okay ill look after you."

I looked up at him, he was a year older than me and quite a bit taller too. It was easy to see why the girls all wanted him. Kal was all messy blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. I smiled up at him "thanks" I said, my voice barley a whisper.

After breakfast, the sun still not up, Kal lead me across the town square over to the justice building, where interviews and court cases were held.

"You ready Nyssa?" Kal spoke softly,

"Ready as I'll ever be." I replied.
