NYSSA'S POV
First thing I do is gather all the courage I have and walk over to Ashton. He stands up. Then I slap him so hard across the face that he stumbles slightly, he shakes his head in pain timidly touching his jaw.
"I guess I deserved that." He mumbles looking at the ground "I am so sorry Nyssa." he looks up as he says this and I know deep down he really is sorry.
"Why did you just leave?" I ask. My head is swimming with questions and I feel like I'm going to collapse again. I think he sees this in my eyes and gently guides me to the chair behind the table.
"I..... I just got scared, I just ran I mean, I wanted to come back for you, and Kal, but I couldn't. I couldn't risk coming back. They would kill me, the Rippers, running away from the county boundaries, that is punishable by death! They told me that just before you came."
"Scared of what? I know that they would kill you. That's why I never understood why you left!"my voice was shaky, and I was trying to hold back my tears, my frustration with not understanding.
"Nys.... shhhh... I'm sorry okay? I was scared that I would have to carry on my life, doing nothing but working in a bloody mine! I needed to get away for a while. I never meant to be away for so long though. I'm sorry Nyssa." He whispered, his voice barely audible. After he finished, I couldn't hold back the tears any longer. I collapsed into his arms, sobbing, and he comforted me until I was asked to leave the room.
