KAL'S POV

I woke and lay in bed for a while. Today was the day of Ashton's trial. It had been exactly five weeks and two days since Nyssa and I had gone to see him in the justice building. As I leant over and checked the time, the bed creaked loudly and I winced, hoping I hadn't woken Nyssa. It was 5:30am. Everybody else would be at work in the mines by now, even though it was still dark outside. The trial wasn't until eight anyways. I crawled out of bed and made my way to the other side of the small hut we shared. It wasn't much, just a small hut with two bedrooms a bathroom and a kitchen.

I decided to cook Nyssa breakfast, and I brought it into the small room that we shared. There were two bedrooms, but since we last saw Ashton she had started having nightmares so i suggested I move in with her so I could be there for her quickly when she needed me. She yawned and rolled over so I could see her face. Such a pretty face, lately dark circles had appeared under her eyes and I know she hadn't been getting asleep til early in the morning.

"Mmm...smells good" she opened her eyes and smiled, and I knew she noticed me watching her sleep.

"Hah yeah... its not much, just toast" I say, trying to hide my embarrassment.

"Thank you Kal, your so sweet." She replies before hugging me quickly.

NYSSAS POV

I dress in my best clothes for the trial, a white dress with tiny black flowers around the hem. As I'm stood at the mirror near the bed fishtail braiding my hair, I catch Kal looking at me and smile back at him. After I finish my hair I try to button up my dress at the back, I'm clearly struggling, so Kal comes over to help me. He gently buttons me up and then we stand there, him behind me, looking into the mirror at each other. We are there for a moment, when I break the silence by turning around to face him, straightening up his shirt collar.

"We better get going" he says, nerves creeping into his voice. Of course he's nervous, today is the day the county authorities decide his brothers fate.

"Let's go" I say after hugging him tightly.
