"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain."
~Vivian GreeneI wake up Wednesday morning to rain beating down on the glass windows of my bedroom and Joey snoring softly on the floor next to my bed. I check my phone for any notification from school to see if we have school today. And...of course. The school doesn't care that we will be hit by a massive hurricane in just a matter of hours. It's no big deal to them at all.
I climb out of bed with a big sigh. I really don't want to drive in this weather and I can hardly imagine the horror of the weather on the way back. I walk over to my dresser and grab a pair of black jeans to put on with my white long sleeve shirt.
I grab my rain boots and my rain jacket from the hallway closet to protect me from the pouring rain when I go outside. I head downstairs and grab the box of cereal to pour into a bowl for breakfast. I plop down on the couch to eat and turn on the TV to watch the news.
"As you can see from the video, Hurricane Violet is starting to roll onto the coasts of Florida, Alabama, and parts of the Mississippi coast line. There is a mandatory evacuation for most coastal areas. When the hurricane reaches land, it will be about a category four hurricane and then decreasing slowly to category three when it reaches Birmingham. If you are any where near a water, take high ground immediately." The meteorologist says through the TV.
"Well this is just phenomenal." I say to myself.
I let Joey outside to do his business and then give him food and water. I grab my backpack from the dining room before heading out. I lock the front door before sprinting to my car. I climb into the driver's seat as quickly as possible. I slam the car door close and turn the ignition. I am completely drenched in rain water.
It tends to take me about fifteen minutes to get school on an average day but today it took my close to thirty. They should have just cancelled school. The roads are dangerous for everyone.
I run into the building and walk straight to my locker to grab my books. I hear footsteps beside me and then Jason enters my eye sight. "Hey, Babe!" He says cheerfully. "How are you doing?"
"I am fine, Jason. Just fine." I reply with a forced smile. "Yourself?"
"Better now that I have talked to you." He says with a flirty smile and wink.
"Oh I am sure about that, Jason." I reply.
"So, I was thinking about some things." Jason says.
"Okay." I reply.
"About you and me." He adds.
"Okay." I reply again.
"Wanna be my girlfriend?" He asks with a smile.
"Jason, we haven't even gone out on a real date." I reply with a sigh.
"Then let's go out on a date!" He says excitedly. "You and me and a movie makes three tonight."
"You realize that there is a hurricane happening?" I ask with my eyebrows raised.
"Oh yeah." He says with small chuckle. "I could just come over to your's then since your dad ain't home and help you keep the farm together for the next couple days. We could get to know each other a little and then I know you would love to be my girlfriend by then end of those days." Jason suggests.
I sigh before replying. "Jason, no." I say. "I don't want to be your girlfriend."
"Why not?" He asks.
"We are just too different." I reply.
"What about homecoming?" He asks.
"I never said that I was going to go with you." I say. "I never even said if I was going."
