Sam tried to stand, but he felt an enormous weight on him, as if he were made of lead. It took all of his effort just to lift his head, to look at the scene before him. He almost wished he hadn't. A pale faced man wandered the darkness, limping, stained with his own blood.

"Mark! You're-" Mark slowly rose into the air as Darkiplier appeared suddenly, a dark, shadowy beam shooting from his hand. Mark groaned in agony. He struggled for a moment before going limp, the ray seemingly sapping his strength. "Mark!" Sam tried to get up but the weight on him became heavier and he sank into the ground. Sam looked up at the demon. "What are you-"

"If he is able to resist me with his innocence, then I'll just have to take that away." Dark smirked evilly. "I'll just have to make him like me." Sam glanced at Mark, motionless.

"And I can assure you," Darkiplier finished. "That there is nothing more painful. And the best part?" Darkiplier eyed the contorted body he dangled in the air. "It lasts as long as I want."

Dark seemed to be getting impatient. "Say 'Buh-Bye, Markimoo." Sam watched in horror as Mark began to change. Claws sprouted from his fingertips. His eyes glazed over a milky white, and his pupils turned blood red. That part of him that had saved so many people, and charmed so many more, the thing that kept him going through all of this, the thing that made Mark, Mark, hope, was gone, sucked away into the beam.

Sam channeled all of his strength into standing up. He couldn't watch this. Mark didn't deserve this. He threw himself in the path of the beam.

Dark hadn't been lying.

Mark heaved on the ground, holding his throat. He cracked open his eye to see Sam.

Sam.

Sam had saved him.

Unnoticed, a shadowy figure rose up from beside Mark. It glanced around, then disappeared.

Sam looked over at his friend and grinned painfully. Then he vanished.

There was nothing.
