Fractured Mind

The sun hung above the dry desert like a ceiling lamp. There were rocky mountains in the distance and nothing else but a long stretch of road and a rather large lake.

A small blue car was parked several meters away from the lake, it was engulfed in flames. The red hot fire lashed up at the blue sky.

A gateway opened. This one was different, the edges looked like water spiraling down a drain; reality bent at the horizon before spiraling inwards to a different environment. A tall thin figure stepped though, the creature.

It moved with grace and terror, its stick-like arms propelled it at incredible speeds. It stared at the fire with wide eyes, then quickly turned towards the lake. It stood at the shore looking down at the hazy green water. At lightning speed, it dove in. A minute later it emerged with the body of a woman, about twenty years old. She wore a cheap white button down shirt, grey pants, and a sun-bleached dark green sweater.

The creature placed her out in the sun, her face still had color in it. It stood over her, its eyes studying her intently. As it leaned closer to her, it placed its hand on her face. It turned into a inky black liquid and rushed into her.

She sprang to life. Black residue filled her eyes then slowly disappeared into her pupils. Turning to the side, she coughed out water.

The woman was not herself, the blood pumping through her veins was not blood. The creature wrapped itself around her dead mind, latching on and taking control.

"That's better."

The faint hum of a car caught her attention, she turned and looked down the road. A dark green car rolled to a stop several meters away. A man stepped out. He looked at the blazing fire behind her.

"Holy fuck! Are you okay?" he asked.

She stood up quickly. A smile stretched across her face.

"I'm fine. Can I take your car?" she asked.

"What?"

She lunged at him. Her hand smashed through his skull, blood splattered across the dirt. She quickly stood up and ran towards the car.
