sometimes i wonder why i do this, ghost hunting. i put myself in so much danger because of tips that could be fake for all i know. right now for instance, i'm here in front of a worn down apartment building after getting a tip from one of my most reliable sources, jungkook.
jungkook's a young boy with the stupid dream of becoming what i am. people give him tips that he checks out thoroughly and then sends me the information i'll need. he's bright but i promised his mother i wouldn't let him go anywhere near ghosts until he's at least twenty. sadly that's coming up soon. i sighed just thinking of how naive jungkook is but quickly shook the thought of him out of my mind. i need to concentrate.
i reached into my pocket, grabbing the hilt of my knife. you can't kill a ghost with just any weapon though. they have to be special, laced with spells and charms. some occult shops sell weapons you can kill ghosts with but most aren't reliable. the most reliable are ones passed down through generations. the more ghosts you kill the more powerful the weapon gets.
my knife has been passed down from my great-great grandfather. normally you would pass down to knife to your oldest child when they turn eighteen but sometimes it's different. i got given the knife when i was fifteen.
my mother had it before me but one day she went out hunting a ghost and didn't come back. we sent a search party out for her and found her wandering through the woods muttering and shouting about things that made no sense. she was taken to a mental hospital but not before my father took her knife and gave it to me. he has apologised countless of times for burdening me with the knife but i knew he wouldn't have been able to take it since the sight of anything remotely scary makes him freak out.
so i started killing ghosts at the age of fifteen. i used my mother's sources and gathered some of my own. i remember every single ghost i've killed. i remember their face and how they died. it's something you can't get out of your mind no matter what. something i'm haunted by.
and here i am, no matter how many nightmares i've had for this job i'm still standing in front of this place, getting ready to kill another ghost. how lovely.
apparently the ghost who lives in this apartment building got killed in the basement, probably from some satanic ritual, and his ghost haunts the whole building. he killed every single resident in the house after he turned into a ghost, each getting killed in a different way. one beheaded, one ripped in half, one exploded, the list goes on.
i'm just hoping that this isn't one of the cases where all the people he killed turned into ghosts. i've dealt with a situation like that before but it wasn't on a smaller scale. if this one is like that i'm going to have to call some backup. the last one was on jeju island and i met a quirky, diva of a witch to help me with it. i didn't know any witches in seoul let alone an extremely powerful one to help me handle this situation but jungkook told me there should only be one
ghost so hopefully he was right and i won't have to go witch hunting as well as ghost hunting.i took my knife out of my pocket and slowly opened the door. the only light was from the cracks in the boarded up windows and the open door. i decided to leave the door open just in case i needed to make a quick escape. the ghosts won't be able to leave, they can only stay where they've been killed.
i looked around, so far nothing seemed suspicious but that's what it's normally like. you go in, think everything's fine and then when you're leaving you get killed.
i only had to walk a few more steps before a ghost came out of the wall next to me. he was wearing a cap, sweater and jeans. all black. the only thing that made him look different to a normal person was the missing left side of his body and the blood spilling from it and his mouth.
i gripped my knife tighter before stabbing it into the ghost's neck in one swift movement as he advanced. the ghost stopped for a second before exploding into a ball of fire.
according to jungkook, this was not what the ghost i was supposed to be killing looked like. i swore under my breath and slowly moved back towards the door. if what i was thinking was right, i could be in deep trouble.
just before i reached the door my suspicions were proved right as a group of what looked like over twenty ghosts appeared from the walls, floor and cieling. i quickly leaped to the outside of the house and shut the door. this was going to be a very hard job.
