You laughed as Avi tried to throw the rings around the bottles. He had been trying, for the whole day, to win you as many prizes as possible. You really didn’t need any cheap stuffed animals, but it was sweet how much he wanted to get you something.
"You know it’s rigged, right, babe?" you asked, leaning over to him.
"I don’t care, I’m still gonna try!" he replied, smiling.
He kept going until he ran out. The guy behind the booth was laughing at him and Avi frowned, looking down. You kissed him on the cheek and grabbed his hand, pulling him away.
"What else can I play?" he questioned, looking around.
"Avi, you don’t need to win me anything else. I think I already have enough." you responded, sighing, holding up the three stuffed bears you were carrying.
"Maybe you’re right. For now."
"Let’s go on a ride or something!"
He looked around nervously. Avi never did that well with any type of ride. You shook your head and motioned for him to follow you. He trailed behind you slowly, his shoulders slumped.
You looked around, searching for something that wouldn’t be too scary. You spotted the Ferris wheel, it wasn’t too big. Maybe Avi would be okay with going on it. As you stared up at it, he came up next to you.
"If that’s what you’re thinking, I’m just going to hang out down here." he said.
"What? Why?" you asked, frowning.
"I’m not good with that kind of stuff." he shrugged.
"Please? I’m afraid of heights, we can be afraid together." you grinned, batting your eyelashes at him.
He looked up, and then sighed, nodding. You squealed in excitement and grabbed his hand, pulling him over to the line-up. You stood for a few minutes, waiting until it was going to be your turn.
Once you were at the front of the line, Avi started to look extremely nervous. You squeezed his hand and laid your head on his shoulder, smiling up at him. He smiled back softly.
"Okay, go ahead." the person operating the ride said.
You climbed up the steps and got into your seat. Avi sat next to you, his hands shaking slightly. Another person checked your seat, making sure you were secured tightly enough.
You set your bears down and grabbed Avi’s hand again, hoping he would be okay. Once the ride started to move, he seemed to stop breathing for a moment.
"It’s okay, babe. I’m right here." you said, stroking his hand with your thumb.
"I-I know. I’m just…I don’t know, this isn’t sitting very well with me. Can we get off now?" he asked.
"Um…I don’t think so. We have to wait until it’s over."
He started panicking, looking around for someone to call. You placed your free hand on his cheek, kissing him softly. He hesitantly kissed you back, and he seemed to start breathing normally again.
"Come on, get off, lovebirds!" someone shouted.
You pulled away and opened your eyes to see the person who’d buckled you in standing there, glaring at you. You blushed and grabbed your bears, hopping off of the ride and going back down the stairs. Avi followed, grabbing you by your waist and pulling you close to him.
"That wasn’t as bad as you thought it was going to be, right?" you grinned.
"No, it was worse." he frowned. "Can you promise me something?"
"Sure." you shrugged.
He leaned forward and kissed you. You smiled, kissing him back. You could hear a few people around you groaning, but you didn’t care. Once he pulled away, you were out of breath. He smirked.
"Promise me that we’re not doing that again."
