'First day of school' I thought to myself 'Gosh I already hate all of you people. Stop screaming you probably saw her yesterday.'

Making my way through the crowded halls I rolled my eyes at the people who were going to be apart of the next 3 years of my life.

I found my locker quickly and started to get prepared for the day. Posting some pictures of the purest angels Andy Biersack and Pete Wentz, I shuffled around in my backpack looking for my class list.

"Hey four-eyes. What's with the emo freaks?" A bleach blonde bimbo asked, she didn't need to the push through the crowd, they all kind of floated around her. Like water around a rock. She had two girls in tow, a tanned girl with stick straight black hair, and a petite redhead with a pound of makeup on attempting to hide her freckles.

"Have a nice day." I said shutting my locker and giving the Barbie a fake smile.

"I wasn't finished talking to you."

"You didn't have to be." I said.

"You don't know who I am do you?" She said, crossing her arms, any more pushing on her chest and things would quickly get R rated.

"Don't need to and don't want to." I attempted to turn around and walk away, she grabbed my backpack and yanked back on me.

"How dare you talk to me like that?!" She shrieked, her plastic accomplices nodding in agreement with her every word.

At that moment, as if the world hated me, someone's water bottle spilled right on my jeans. Looking as if I had peed my pants. Would anyone notice? Of course. And would they be immature idiots about it? Do boxes hold a lot of stuff?

Of course the Barbie dolls all cackled like a bunch of witches, pointing at some idiots clumsiness.

Hello high school, this will be the running joke for the rest of the semester. If I'm lucky, the next two semesters.

I head off to my classes not really caring what everyone thought just being annoyed at life in general.

-------------------------

By the time lunch rolls around everyone is still giggling about my "accident" so I find myself a good tree near the school yard.

"Hiya!" Feet popped out from the tree and a teenage boy quickly followed the lead. He hopped down from the limb he had been sitting on and sat next to me.

I merely nodded my head in response. I was not in the mood for human interaction at the moment.

"I'm Tyler, Tyler Joseph." He stuck out his hand, which I did not shake. A few seconds of silence before his voice, too sweet and small for his body type, came spilling from him again. "You really talk too much you know that?"

I looked up at his tanned face. His lips curled like rose petals, they were pink and almost stood out in comparison to his skin. He had a rather thin nose, almost too thin, it reminded me of a pencil in a way. And his eyes, he had beautiful old eyes. Their color reminded me of a sound, but I couldn't describe it even if I wanted to. He certainly seemed special or at the very least semi-important so I moved my lunch sack to give him some space.

"I think we have AP Biology together." He said taking a rather large bite of what looked like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, with strawberry jelly.

"Do we?" I replied, acting uninterested when in fact my interest was only increasing. He seemed pretty nice, just odd.

"Mmhmm" he mumbled, his mouth full of sandwich. "What's your name?"

"Sophia."

"Sophia, that's pretty. But you don't look like a Sophia, you look like...." He trailed off, his eyes wandered up and he looked at the sky through the tree branches for a moment. "You look like a Ruby."

"Well I'm not." My words came out a little rougher than intended.

We were quiet for a long time, eating our lunches.

"Are you the girl that Rachie decided to terrorize this morning?"

"Rachie?" I asked with a little chuckle. "Don't tell me that's some kind of special nickname she made you call her because you're the cute boy who people like."

"You're smart." He said, his rose lips curling into a wide smile.

"Thanks, not everyone seems to think that."

"Don't worry about them. I'll carry all your blame."

"You don't know me Mr. Tyler, Tyler Joseph." I said mimicking his earlier attitude.

"You're right I don't. But I would like to know you, Ruby." A small snicker escaped his mouth. "Can I sing you a song? I want to be in a band one day, if I can ever find someone to join me and make it out of Ohio."

"Why not, I've got nothing better to do."

"The song is actually called Ruby. Maybe you'll end up liking it." He winked with those eyes and his voice began to flow.

"Ruby I hope I see you, I've waited all this week
For you to walk my way, your soul will capture me
Your momma painted your room a shade of pink, she said
But with your great arrival that shade has turned to red."

The lyrics were simple, and the melody wasn't much but the feeling behind it almost moved me to tears.

"Ruby take my hand, please lead me to the Promised Land
Tell me, where am I from, your eyes say, "Shada de da dum."
Ruby, you're royalty, in your home land, they all call you "Queen"
Tell me, where are you from, your eyes say, "Shada de da dum."

The bell rung and cut off his song, I instantly cursed that wretched device for stopped such a gorgeous piece.

"I'll sing the rest for you later. 5pm at my house."

"Oh, okay." I said suddenly shy. The boy that I had just met, invited me to his house so he could sing me a song. The boy that the Barbies apparently obsessed over.

"See you at 5 then?"

"See you at 5." I repeated.

High school may not be all that bad after all.
