Confusion swam around you like big koi, and your murky thoughts were the water upon which they evolved upon.

Temptation to pull Gray inside the room and shake him back and forth, demanding what the situation was.

It was all just thinking.

The doctor breathed out, even and slow. "Strange," she scrunched up her face as she analyzed Juvia's still body.

"What's wrong, doctor?" You wrung your hands, nervously.

"That's the thing," her voice was low and steady, "I don't know."

Your eyes met, "what do you mean?"

"There's no symptoms, everything is fine, it's almost like she's just been sleeping." The doctor took off her stethoscope.

She turned on her heels, stepping away and leaving.

And that's when your gaze caught the faint shimmering crest just floating a few centimeters above Juvia's head, a crest just a few inches wide.

A crest that sent shivers down your spine, and aching memories to your head.

You fled to the hall, the doctor peering at you with concern over her shoulder. "Are you alright, my dear?"

"Y-yes, please don't worry about me." You pulled Gray up, despite his protesting, shoving him inside. "Do you see that?" Pointing a shaking finger at the crest, you asked.

Behind, you could see the woman sending you a confused look before shaking her head and heading down.

"There seems to be a floating sign on Juvia's head," he spoke, dazed.

"I knew it! We need to leave right now." You frantically spun around the room. "Go grab your things, we'll be gone for a long time."

Grabbing a notepad from nearby, you scrawled words upon for Deo.

"What?" Gray spoke slowly, not fully comprehending the situation. "Why? What about Juvia?"

"She'll be safe here," your shoes squeaked against the marble floor, the motion so violent, it caused your hair to fly.

"Safe? From what?"

"Go get your things." You spoke, crisply. "I'll explain on the way, we need to start moving. Deo will look after her if she wakes up."

"Although I doubt she will anytime soon," you muttered under your breath.

"Uh, alright..." He left the room in a hurry.

Within an hour's time, Gray was starting to ask questions.

"It would be nice if you could let me, y'know, in on what's happening." Gray called, struggling to keep his weight on the cutting rocks.

"Let you in?" You echoed, "what do you want to know?"

He seemed almost surprised you were allowing answers. "I never got to tell you. This morning, I- someone," he corrected, "someone was controlling my brain."

"What did it feel like?" You asked, noticing the paved road back underneath your feet.

"I-it's hard to explain. Like someone...took out my brain and played magic hockey with it."

You laughed out loud. "Magic hockey?"

"No joke, that's what it felt like."

"Alright, I guess it can feel like that." You glanced backwards at him.

"So was I controlled?"

"Mm, yeah. And I know just who's the culprit." You smiled deviously to yourself, arriving at the top of the hillside.

"(Y/N)."

You turned around, a gust of wind blowing the patches of grass. Gray stood in the middle of all the greens, holding a wild flower in his hand.

"This is what it felt like."

His fingers rubbed it until it broke apart, the petals flying away in the wind. "Like someone took my brain and turned it into nothingness."

You considered it for a while, grinning, "is that a word?"

Evening came, turning the canvas above into a splash of open colors. But even with all the bright colors in the sky, there was only a little light that came from the heavens above.

In the port town of Austrobia, when nightfall came; humans abandoned it. And there were little to none on the streets now.

"Tired?"

"What, aren't you?" He glared at the sky, "it's been a few hours already."

"I'm used to walking this long," you grinned.

"No way, I know you're tired. How are we supposed to get onto a ship now?"

"How do you think vacationers get across the ocean?"

"We're going on a cruise ship?" He glanced at the docks.

"Nah, taking another small boat."

"Oh."

"Come on, they're over here." You grabbed his arm, tugging him.

By the port were the docked boats. And among all the docked ones, a small dingy ship floated in the waters. A woman; asleep and snoring soundly inside.

"Hello?" You called, nudging her awake. "What? What?" She blinked a few times, "oh it's you again! Long time no see!"

"Yeah, I brought my, uh, traveling buddy this time."

"I'm her tour guide."

"...hi," the woman grumbled, "this boat'll hopefully hold on. To Mediodia we head!" She screeched at the top of her lungs, untying the rope from the dock.

"We're leaving!" She cheered, pumping her fist in the air. Gray shot warning looks, but you ignored them.

You cheered right along with her.
