Only Human (Sequal to Monster)

Chapter Twelve (.5)

     Mitch crouched next to Mars, his hyper eyesight, which was one of the perks of his soul keeper side, picking up the light of several bonfires and the movement of many dancing shadows. The fires were skillfully hidden out of sight of the sentries posted along the walls of the looming Fort Jackson.
    "There are five groups of them" Mitch whispered, pointing out the bonfires. Behind him, Ian passed on the message to the rest of the group, who were hiding behind an outcrop of gnarled trees. Mitch, Mars, Seto, and strangely, Ian were perched on a small pile of rocks that gave them a vantage point down into the valley that surrounded this gate of the fort.
    Ian returned to his side. "The group wants to know the plan." He huffed, slightly out of breath. Mars stroked his chin thoughtfully.   
     "There are other ways in, but they will take time." He sighed, his voice husky. Mitch noticed that his voice dropped when he was thinking. "Besides. I don't think they are here for us. They must be planning to attack the fort, but that'll get them nowhere, this fort is too strong." Mars' vibrante eyes scanned the area. "But, on the off chance they are here because they knew we were coming, we need to find out who their informant is."
      Seto nodded. "I agree. I think we should send a small party, maybe two or three people, down there to eavesdrop."
      "Smart," Mars said with a pensive nod. Suddenly, Mars clasped Mitch's shoulder. "Okay, you two, you're up! Try not to die." And with that, he and Seto crawled over to join the others in the trees.
    Ian and Mitch shared a look, and Ian sighed, peeling himself off the ground. He helped Mitch up, before hesitating and taking off his black jacket.
     "Here, put this on. You red jacket is too noticeable." He said, handing Mitch the dark fabric. Mitch accepted it with a nod, shedding his normal hoodie for the black outer layer. Both of them missed the jealous look from the outcrop as they began to descend into the valley.

Hey guys, there is a reason that this update took so long, and why it's so short.
   See, I've been doing really well with my health recently, and the physical training I've been doing has been just amazing. I was so happy... but the other day, I had a seizure. Nothing new, but...after doing so well, it was kinda jarring. So, I'm going to take a break, again. And, I know it's not fair to you guys, but if it wasn't necessary, I wouldn't do it. I'm putting the book on hold, just so you're not just fruitlessly waiting. When I do start updating again, I'll take off the 'on hold' status.

Just please don't give up on me. If you truly like the story, wait, and I will deliver. If not, then thank you for sticking with me this long.
