The most important things can be lost in one moment, but you know what is more painful?
Watching yourself lose them over and over again for what seems like forever.
That's what Lydia Martin was going right now, while watching her best friend slowly break down.
He was getting better-he really was. The day after Lydia's birthday party, he lost the headaches, and he began to return to school at a more constant rate. Lydia smiled more and everything seemed much better.
So when did it all go wrong? Well let's go back a few days, shall we?
Lydia's POV:
"Headache check?" "None."
This has been the best part of waking up for me for the past few days. Stiles has been getting better-he really has. I know that his condition will never leave, but it may lessen to a point of us being able to say that Stiles has healed.
It's all I really want.
"Lyds you wanna go watch a movie tonight?" he asked so excitedly. His face was so beautiful, so precious especially when he got excited like that. That's why when I had to turn him down, it hurt a lot. A few weeks ago I was hoping that I would have extra time to be with Stiles, and here I was leaving his side, just as soon as he healed.
"I have another date tonight."
Aiden has been my longest boyfriend, so far. He makes me genuinely happy and there really isn't anything bad to say about him. He understands my situation with Stiles so well, and he does the best he can to support me with it. The only thing is, he still does't seem extremely comfortable with the time I spend with him.
I mean, I cancelled my birthday date with him to go spend time with Stiles, and all of a sudden, our relationship shifted for the negative side. "How dare you cancel on me? Are you his watchdog? He does't need a nanny at his side always!"
That's when we took a break for a few weeks, but before I knew it, he was apologizing and begging for forgiveness, so I let him back in. Last week, we went out on a makeshift date to try to fix everything, but today we are going out for our first "re-official" date.
"Ok, but seriously Lyds, if he says anything about me this time that could start a fight, just stay with him and agree with him, please." There was something about that which didn't sound right. No, he didn't sound jealous because of my date, but he sounded genuinely wrong.
"Are you alright?"
"Perfectly fine." (Stiles' POV: That was the first lie I told her tonight.)
"Headache check?"
"Absolutely nothing." (Stiles' POV: I can't think. I can't breathe. It's shaking. It's running. I don't know. What is happening? Help me Lydia. Help me.)
"Hey, isn't that Aiden? You get going now Lyds," he whispered. He wouldn't look at me. He wouldn't look in my eyes, and that was what told me he needed a hug now, more than ever.
"I love you Stiles," I said gripping onto him.
"I love you more Lydia. You look beautiful, now go," he said pushing me out.
"But I don't want to go. I want to stay with you."
I wish I told him that, but I walked out of the door not looking back.
I wish I looked back.
So I went on the date, reluctantly at first, but then I began easing out. Aiden and I went to the movies to watch Me Before You and it was such a good movie that I cried multiple times.
