The assassin moved through the streets of the city of Asyyep. The people walking around him had no idea what he had done. The Organisation would for sure keep this very hushed-up. The state didn't want the public to know about how incapable they were at protecting important figures that they simply had to protect at all costs. He chortled scornfully at all the propaganda posters pasted all over buildings. We know they are bad at what they do. Propaganda about the greatness of the government doesn't help. Interpol will never find out, I have the full protection of the Society. Soon his landed property in which he lived came into view. He walked towards it, opened the door and walked in.

The whole team soon started to gather around Larry, all staring at the object in sheer astonishment. The object was a dull grey metal rod, pockmarked with very small triangular pits. "Holy shit! It's a video rod!" somebody in the group shouted. The person who said that turned out to be a lady, apparently in her twenties. She had long, flowing jet-black hair that fell to her abdominal area. She had penetrating green eyes that seemed to drill into you with infinite precision, reading your thoughts. Her face looked as if it had been chiseled by an extremely skilled craftsman, God hadn't made any mistakes when making her face. "The pits on the rod contain information that can be extracted by using a video rod player. This rod is absolutely one of the most high-tech form of information storage device that exists on the planet," she said, smiling one of her dazzling smiles. Larry looked down at the rod and nodded. He turned to the police officer in charge and asked, "Do you have one of those video rod player things that she," he gestured at the woman who had identified the rod that he was holding, " was talking about?" The commander nodded and said. "Yes. But it is at the police station. I think that we should finish looking around the crime scene first, and then we will make our way there." Larry nodded his wholehearted agreement. He continued to look at the rod, shaking his head at how disenchanted he had become with the newest technologies that exist. He was surprised that the financial minister had this in her pocket. What could she be doing with this? What would she want to send or record? And why? He pocketed the rod and walked towards the lifeless, supine bodies of the financial minister and her boyfriend, where many of the country's best forensic scientists were doing their investigations.
After some time, the commander of the unit walked up to Larry and said, "So, what do you reckon is up?" Larry said, somewhat confidently, "Well, I think that the killer of both of them," gesturing to the dead bodies of the victims, "was a part of a particularly powerful organisation, and it probably has people on the the inside of many governmental organisations. However, I do not know what might have motivated them to execute the murder. The video may provide us with some clues." The commandant nodded his assent. Then, the woman who knew about the video rod came up to him. "Hello," she said, "I'm so sorry I forgot to introduce myself to you. My name is Jennifer Mormen. I, with the commandant, are the technology experts in the police headquarters." She shook hands with Larry, smiled to the commandant, and walked off.
Soon, a forensic agent arrived and reported negative DNA signs. Thus, the commandant concluded the clue-finding operation, and everybody quickly put any other clues that they could find, and went into the police cars parked nearby.
It didn't take very long for them to reach the police station. The commandant and Jennifer led Larry to the room in the police headquarters that contained all the state-of -the-art equipment that the police station could get. The commandant was known to lavishly spend on such technology, but people could not try and remove him from his post as he was the most efficient commandant that the country had ever seen, despite the greater financial burden of having him at such a high position. He walked with the rigidity of a seasoned veteran, he walked with a posture honored by all yoga and ergonomics experts, that they gave his example in their speeches. he was also known for his intolerance of inefficiency, which contributed in part to his outstanding track record. He moved with the agility of a panther, despite his large build. He led Larry to the room. When Larry walked into the Room of Technology, Larry's mouth instinctively opened in awe. The size of his mouth at that point was so big it could have fit a boa constrictor. That room was the dream room of any technology geek. It was filled with all sorts of gadgets, keyboards and screens. The commandant brought Larry to the video rod player. It looked something like a DVD player, but there was a hole the size of the rod in the machine, which was connected to a screen. The commandant asked Larry to put the rod in the machine. Larry did so. It blinked to life at once. The screen soon showed "Reading Rod", and after some time began to play the video. Everyone in the room fell silent.
The video showed a room in which there were some people, the men wore very formal suits and the women wore flowing white gowns that trailed behind them wherever they walked. It was a miracle how nobody trod on the huge trailing blankets of exquisitely crafted silk. They were all starting to get settled at a table that was smack in the middle of the room. It was laden with food. Soon, they were all settled. A man and a woman were seated at the head of the table. He asked the commandant to pause the video, and zoom in the screen to the people sitting at the head of the table. A twinge of recognition tugged at his mind. Then, it hit him. It's the finance minister and her boyfriend! What the hell were they doing in there? He heard similar breaths of mingling surprise and shock emanating for the commandant and Jennifer. Larry looked around to see the facial expressions of his two companions. The commandant was frowning, and Jennifer was shaking her head in disbelief. The commandant walked forward, and pressed the play button. The finance minister invited everybody to eat, and they did. It seemed as if the people at the table were like slaves of the couple at the head of the table, bound to perform every whim and fancy of theirs. The congregation ate first, and after some time, the minister called out for them to listen.
"Today is a very important day for the Organisation as a whole. We are celebrating our five hundredth anniversary of our glorious existence. We have been continuously trying to make the world a better place for those loyals who follow our noble ideology without hesitation. However, we must be constantly vigilant. Constant vigilance is required from each and every one of you, because the Society, which you all very well know is our sworn enemy and the instigator of many worldwide catastrophic events, like the five World Wars, and the Hot War. They and their satellite organisations have constantly tried to push all the work that we and our predecessors have done to maintain world peace down the drain, and are still threatening to do so. If we give in and surrender, the world will turn into a wasteland in the matter of a few years, anarchy will reign, and the extinction of the human race will become a genuine worry for the general population, whereas now it is discussed just by hardcore conspiracy buffs. However, if the Society wants to force this situation upon us using violence, then we will fight back too. Let this be a warning to all the members of the Society, and any of those in the Organisation who try to betray us. Traitors to mankind shall not be spared. This is all that i have to say for now. Let us continue to strive for the eventual betterment of mankind and general and ideological supremacy around the world." With that, the minister raised her glass, and so did all the rest and toasted to the glory of the Organisation. Then, the video ended.
The three of them all looked at each other, with sheer incomprehension evident on their faces. "Sounds like the stuff for a conspiracy buff eh?" said Larry uncomfortably, trying to lighten the heavy mood that was ensnaring them in a heart-clenching embrace. Both Jennifer and the commandant nodded in agreement. "But," said Jennifer, " what is all this Organisation hullabaloo that the finance minister was talking about? And what is this Society?" The commandant and Larry responded with a click of their tongue, signaling that they did not know. "Well," the commandant asked, "what do you think we should do?" Larry smiled and said, "Like I said, this is the stuff of a conspiracy buff."
