The Man From Another Era

I should have born in Rome

Some two thousand years ago,

Where men could clash blades

And spout valiant accolades;

To which the women were smitten

By bodies sweat drenched and wound ridden.

For in the new era of peace and those who are kind

I feel like a relic; out of place and time.

Or maybe I would be better suited for Victorian Rule

Studying at some fine Shakespearian school

Writing lyrics the break the hearts of women

Where string together words for my swooning victim

Where gay still meant happy and I could just be glad to write

Instead I spend time dreading my lonely night

I wish I had been born to the times of war

Where a man's worth was measured in body scores

And heroes new the true cost of a bullet

So they hesitate and weigh life and death before they pull it

A time when men earned the right to be called men

Through hardships and blood we earned our stripes back then

But alas I've been born in the era of folly

Where being ignorant and cold makes the fools jolly

Where drugs and sex have become my addiction

As I take a step closer into my dark fiction

Out of place in a hurtful world of sorrow

And only finding solace in an empty sea of woes
