Chapter 10

"Newt!" I yelled gripping onto a nearby tree. I've been searching for him for an hour now and I'm getting fed up.

"Newt!" I screamed in frustration. I leaned down to catch my breath when A sound of heavy breathing caught my attention. I breathed out a sigh of relief and followed the breathing.

I soon came to my mermaid lake. Peter told me that if I wanted to be a mermaid that I should only swim in this lake as the others and the ocean have evil mermaids that eat people. No thank you.

I looked around the area and saw newt huddled up in a ball on the floor. I slowly walked over to him and sat down.

"I-I al-most k-killed y-you" he stuttered out keeping his head down.

I sighed "but you didn't and besides it was an accident" I said rubbing his back.

"N-no not then in t-the g-glade" he looked up at me. "I'm so sorry rose!" He almost screamed then went back to his huddled up position this time his hands were in his face.

I pulled him into my chest while I rubbed his back. "It's okay newt I forgive you"

"B-but you shouldn't. You were right earlier I'm am a m-monster" he said shaking his head.

"I guess we both have apologies to give" I said laughing lightly. He sent a small chuckle my way. "I'm sorry I called you a monster. I was angry" I said stroking his hair to calm him down again.

"People do or say stupid things when they're angry" he said looking up at me. "I mean I got angry at the fact that you and Peter were together in that tree today and when he was staring at you at dinner. I just felt the same anger I felt when you were with Ben. Then next thing I know I'm hurling fireballs. That's not normal"

"Normal is boring. And anyway I know how you feel"

He sat up and looked me in the eye "you do?"

I nodded and stood up. Newt gave me a weird look but I smiled at him then walked over to the edge of the lake "rose what are you doing"

I turned to him again "you'll see" I replied and jumped into the water.

"Rose!" newt screamed running up to the curb that I was just on. As soon as my body hit the bottom of the lake, I looked down at my feet. Suddenly bubbles surrounded them and they were replaced by a forest green tail.

"Rose!" Newts voice echoed from the top of the lake as a hand reached in as if trying to grab me. I smirked at the idea in my head as I swam up.

I soon as I was a certain distance and in reach of the Hand, I gripped it and pulled it down with me as newt yelled in surprise.

We both quickly broke to the surface. He gasped for air as soon as he opened his eyes. Lucky for me that mermaids breath underwater.

"Why did you do that?" Newt asked flapping his arms around trying to stay afloat and kicking his feet like crazy. His head kept bopping under the water.

I grabbed one of his arms and he held on for dear life. "You can't swim" I stated the obvious.

"Yah don't bloody say" he replied while almost hugging me.

I laughed a bit and swam to the cave part of the lake while pulling newt with me. I placed him on the giant rock in the centre of the water cave. He gladly climbed up and into the centre of the rock. I pulled my self up and sat at the edge of the rock.

Newt gasped at my green tail and the fact I had on a clam bra. Boob power am I right

"Like I said newt. Normal is boring" I said pushing water around with my tail

"Your a mermaid" he said with a gaped mouth. I chuckled and nodded. He reached his hand out. "Can I?" He asked gesturing to my tail. I gave a curt nod.

He placed a hand on my tail and let out shocked laugh. " it's so smooth" i nodded.

I was just about to say something but was interrupted by a dark chuckled.

I placed a finger to my lips and looked at newt. He nodded. "Wait here and be quiet" I whispered. It's not like he can go anywhere.

I quietly jumped off the rock and ducked under the water. I swam to the tall water grass and hid there while watching the intruders.

"What did he say again Derek " one asked.

"Search the island until we find a redheaded girl called rose. She is extremely important to him" the other croaked out. My face dropped. Aw hell nah

"Come on Renly. We have to find the lost boys camp" the second one said and they both scurried off.

I took a deep breath and swam back to newt. "What is it?" He asked as soon as I jumped onto the rock.

"We have to go" I said pulling on his arm

"Wait what?" He asked panicked

"I said we have to go! Come on!" I said shouted and pulled us both into the water. Newt gripped onto my upper left arm while I swam us back to the surface. I groaned when I realised that it takes an hour for the tail to go.

"What's wrong?" Newt asked.

I pointed to my tail "won't go for an hour" suddenly I was lifted up into a chest "what are you doing?" I asked as newt started walking back to camp.

"Carrying you" he replied and carried on walking.

"O-okay"

"Where the hell have you two been?" Peter said marching over to us with everyone else in tow. The gladers slowed down once they saw my tail.

"Swimming" both me and newt said at the same time.

"Actually I was swimming he just sat on a rock" I said while playing with my tail. I turned to Peter "we need to talk"

He nodded "newt take her to the living room I need to check on something" he said walking into the forest.

"Wait so your a mermaid?" Thomas asked as I was sitting on the sofa with my tail up.

"Only when i want to be " I replied.

"That's awesome!" Chuck yelled with Alby nodding.

"Hey rose I'm over the fact you let me wear your bra. Can we best friends again?" Slightly asked walking over to me. I held my arms out and he literally jumped into my arms. "Yass my life goal is complete!"

"Alright people go to bed I need to talk to rose" they all groaned but reluctantly left. Tootles giving me a kiss on the cheek as he left.

"Okay talk" Peter said closing the door
