Keep in mind this occurs when Cas is in California with Crowley.
Gabriel stares down at his phone that's sitting on the table before him. Then he glances at the daunting number he has written down on a pad of paper right. Next to it. Okay, maybe not daunting due to the little hearts he doodled around it. Honestly his mind should be far from attempting to hook up with Sam when his brother could be in danger, but Cas says he has it under control, and Dean is no doubt on his way to fix it.
Gabe didn't have the courage to call Sam yesterday, when he got the number from Dean. He just couldn't make himself punch in the numbers. Now he's going to make the call, no chickening out.
So without wasting another minute, Gabe dials Sam's phone number. He has been waiting for a chance like this for a long time, since Sam came back from college to be exact. To Gabriel, Sam had always been the awkward quiet kid who always followed Dean around. Then he went off to Stanford for college and Gabriel hadn't thought much about the kid. That is until he came back. He was hot, Gabriel couldn't believe that changes Sam went through. Gabriel kept these thoughts to himself, that is for the first year or so. Sam just kept getting hotter and Gabriel voiced his opinions aloud, always in a joking manner, of course.
But now in all seriousness, Gabriel is going to ask this man out. The phone rings and Gabriel suddenly feels nervous. Second ring and Gabriel contemplates hanging up, ring three Gabriel is ready to throw the phone across the room. Then suddenly;
"Hello?" Sam's voice flows through the earpiece of the phone. Gabriel gulps down the nervousness consuming him and takes a deep breath.
"Hey-a Sammy, how goes it?" Gabriel says coolly, not sounding nervous at all.
"Gabriel?" Sam sounds a bit pleased. "What a pleasant surprise."
"Well, you know me, always surprising everyone." Gabriel grimaces at how lame he just sounded. Sam chuckles though.
"So what's up?" Sam asks.
"Well, I heard you and the blonde recently broke it off and I was planning on getting a drink or two tonight and I wanted to know if you wanted to come along." Gabriel speaks casually.
"I don't know, Gabe," Sam sighs.
"Come on, Sammy. I've heard from many people that I'm the perfect cure for being sad." Gabriel will not take no for an answer.
"Fine, I guess a drink or two won't hurt." Sam sighs. "I'll, uh, I'll pick you up, if that's okay. Maybe around six."
"Perfect, see you later!" Gabriel hangs up, sighing with relief. His first instinct is to call Cas and tell him the good news.
The phone rings twice before Cas answers.
"Cassie, you will not believe what happened!" Gabriel exclaims before Cas even has a chance to greet him.
"Gabe, this isn't really the best of times right now." Cas murmurs in response. A whisper of another voice sounds.
"Of course it's a good time," Gabe continues. "Guess who has a date with your brother-in-law!" Gabriel nearly shouts into the phone, he's having a hard time containing his excitement.
"You're going on a date with Sam?" Cas seems genuinely surprised.
"Well, it's not exactly a date. I just told him I'm going out for drinks tonight and I'm going alone. I invited him and he said yeah. But trust me, it will be a date by the end of the night, I'll tell you what." Gabriel can't stop smiling.
