"I'm Millicent Bulstrode. I'm a pureblood", she said proudly, "What about you?"

Oh no. My mum had told me that Slytherins valued the 'pureness of blood' extremely. I had also noticed that while exploring Hogwarts Castle, something I loved to do because at this school, there was always something  you didn't know yet.

Millicent noticed my slightly uncomfortable look. "What's wrong? Wait. Are you a mudbl-" "I'm Kathrin. I'm adopted so I don't know my blood status", I blurted out quickly.

Bulstrode pulled a weird face. "That must be horrible...Not knowing who you are", she said, obviously pitying me.Oh really?

"I don't think your parents were purebloods...they can't be, or else they wouldn't allow adopting you...." What the fuck Bulstrode. "Maybe." was my short answer because come on, who wanted trouble even before the year really started. Also, the ceremony went on. Just in this moment a 'Granger, Hermione' got sorted into Gryffindor.

I watched the blond boy from earlier trying to get Severus' attention. Hold on, now I know why he seemed so familiar. That was Draco Malfoy, Severus'  godson, I recalled seeing pictures of him in Sev's office. Sev had told me I should make friends with him, but I already disliked his way of looking down on people.

He stood there, forged chin, looking over at the Gryffindor table derogatory. When he had talked to me he ad seemed arrogant and superior, just like now. And just as Sev had told me he would, he got sorted into Slytherin. So even more pureblood fanatics, yaaay.

A girl who also just got sorted into my house sat across Bulstrode and they started chatting. Seemingly they were friends, the girl (Parkinson or something like that) seemed dominant.

"Potter, Harry."

Mum's voice made the hall fall silent. Everybody knew the story of the boy who lived. How he had survived the unsurvivable when he was a goddamn toddler.

After a while the hat shouted:"GRYFFINDOR!" and said table burst out in cheers and celebration for the new student. The new Weasley kid also got sorted into Gryffindor. I sawPercy Weasley patting his shoulder and a couple galleons moving from one red-haired twin to the other.

The last young wizard to get sorted was Blaise Zambini, "SLYTHERIN!".

"Hello everybody", he greeted us with a genuine smile. I smiled back. He seemed nice, not like the other complete idiots (siriusly, Salazar Slytherin, what have you got me into? Stop it now). Blaise' dark brown eyes sparkled at me friendly until Draco turned to say: "Well done, Zambini." in his cold, down-looking manner. He jumped and mumbled a weirded out "thanks...", but Draco had already given his attention to some fat idiots, Crabbe and Goyle. Blaise and I exchanged a weird look; 'well done'? You don't choose your house. Whatever...

Dumbledore started his speech now, as always. It was... well, interesting (A/N: We remind you: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweat!), but I had seen this part of the celebration the last few years. Finally, he clapped his hands once and the delicious feast appeared in the big bowls and on huge plates. Food at Hogwarts had always been a beautiful dream, but as a new first grader it tasted almost twice as good.

After the meal the prefects lead all the first graders into their common rooms. I had been to the Slytherin dungeons often to visit Severus and knew exactly where to go.

The Slytherin common room was huge and kept mostly green, but through the windows you could see the underwater world of the black lake. Warm light came from the silver lamps on the walls and the fireplace with green, comfy-looking armchairs around it. The walls were chiseled of stone and decorated with tapestry, just as the usual hallway walls at Hogwarts, but grander. On one tapestry I could see a giant snake, on another a battlefield. I already loved this room.

I didn't remember the name of our prefect who just explained: "The girl's dormitories are on the left, the boy's dormitories on the right. Tomorrow morning the Slytherin house will go to have breakfast together and leave, again, together. Always remember, we are a unity. Gryffindors are our natural enemies, stay away from them.  Arguments will be solved discretely and without involvement of the other houses or public. We are Slytherins, the only pure pureblood house at Hogwarts, the elite. If someone wants to step out of line there will be consequences."

Great. I didn't imagine it this nice , thanks prefect-whose-name-isn't-relevant. I love this house sooooooo much, this year is gonna be fuckin peachy.

"Now go to sleep. Tomorrow around seven we'll leave for breakfast."

I had to share a room with Bulstrode and Parkinson (GOD HOW DO I DESERVE THIS). they just ignored me and chose the best beds right away. With wonder I noticed that one bed stayed empty, but I decided to just ignore it.

All my property had been brought there already and my black tomcat which I named Queens when I'd been five years old (shut up yes you can name a male cat Queens. I can. Also I was five) was lying right on my pillow.( Thats NOT cute. I'll choke on cat fur. It's everywhere)

I got ready for bed quickly, pulled the green curtains of the canopy bed close and got comfy under the heavy green covers. Queens huddled up against my stomach, like every night, and purred quietly.

As I stared at the black wood of my bed I couldn't help but think of Mum again. The disappointment in her look didn't let me go and I decided to visit her tomorrow after class. Then, finally, I slowly fell asleep.
