(A/N long ass chapter)

"MEEOOOUWW"

"Heyqueensswassup", I asked, obviously not awake yet. Queens lightly stabbed my alarm clock with his paw.

QUARTER TO SEVEN shit IM WIDE AWAKE

I jumped out of bed quickly and threw on my uniform in record time, sprinted to the bathrooms and got ready in a rush. Should've packed my bag for class yesterday, damnit.

Shortly after seven o'clock I arrived at the common room where everybody already stood, waiting for me, the last one HOW ARE THEY SO ORGANIZED.

"I'm so sorry for being late", I gasped, out of breath, as they eyed me suspiciously. "You should be. Now let's go" was the cold answer. That prefect from yesterday again.

For breakfast I had my usual toast with raspberry jam and plain tea. Just as I finished, Mum walked into the hall and sat down on her usual seat next to Dumbledore. Next to her sat the tiny professor Flitwick. The short man was always in a good mood and I had grown really fond of him in the past years.

Mum watched me, a little sad, but when I met her gaze she flashed me a little, encouraging smile.

"Hey, pass me the cheese?" Blaise' friendly voice caught my attention. "There you are." "Thanks", he grinned.

Right then Severus came along and passed out the schedules. "Don't you dare to be late for my class", he said, winking. "I would never even think about that, professor." My voice oozed with sarcasm.

As I walked to our first period, potions with Sev, carefully walking a little behind the others, i was torn from my thoughts by Blaise' gentle voice again: "So you already know Professor Snape?" I looked at him in surprise (A/N *chants* stalker Zambini, walkin behind me) and answered: "Yeah, I've been living here since I was like five years old."

"Uh..Okayyy...why though?" His voice didn't even sound invasive, just genuinely curious. I'd never liked talking about the adoption thingy, but I'd come to the conclusion that I could trust him. So I answered: "Minerva McGonagall adopted me. You know, the Transfiguration teacher? Well, I know every teacher except Professor Quirrell. He's new. Sev....Professor Snape is really nice.. if you behave correctly, that is."

"That actually seems really cool!" Blaise really seemed surprised,  he looked at me with eyes the size of the moon (A/N when it was nine in the afternoooooon). "Maybe you could show me around sometime?"
" Sure. I know almost every secret passage. Well, not really. You couldn't be here long enough to know every secret, even as a ghost", I grinned. He chuckled.

When we arrived with the others I overheard Millicent and Parkinson talking about some makeup stuff. That wasn't really my type of conversation, so I stood next to a girl that was standing a little aside, reading a book.

"Hey, I'm Kathrin."

"Hermione", she answered, kind of shy. She had fluffy brown hair, loads of it, and matching brown eyes. Her front teeth were a little too big and she wore a Gryffindor uniform. That little detail made me smile, I remembered the words of our prefect; 'Gryffindors are our natural enemies, stay away from them'. Ridiculous. She seemed nice and I decided to make friends with her, just to score the other Slytherins and their weird rules off. I already had connections with many Gryffindors anyways, some even good friends and/or partners in crime, like the Weasley twins. I didn't want to hide my friends. I mean, who even made such crackbrained rules, hating someone just out of principle?

"I'm excited for Potions", I said. "I love creating stuff from different ingredients."

Hermione looked at me for a second, then smiled: "If it's like cooking, I can imagine it being really fun."

"It's fifty times better than cooking because it doesn't have to taste good. Just be careful with Professor Snape. He can get a little unfair if you upset him. He has this spark of evil", I commented with a slight smile. I had 'borrowed' a few ingredients once without asking him, but I swear I'll pay him back if I have the money. I had only quieted him by telling him the potion had worked perfectly, which it had. Good thing he'd never know it's purpose.

Just in that moment he rushed around the corner, as always giving an impression of a giant bat.

"Speak of the devil...." I whispered to Hermione as I pushed myself off the wall and followed the others to be able to find a nice place in the middle of the room, just so I could hear and read everything, but Sev wouldn't notice me not paying attention.

I'd been to some of his lessons before so I know he always said the same: "In this class there's little foolish wand-waving, as you're here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making..." I'd already stopped listening, concentrating on my favorite activity. Drawing.

I was just completing a centaur as Severus' voice pulled me out of my thoughts: "Mrs.Eastwood, you'll work with Mr. Malfoy." Great. That arrogant whippersnapper. Couldn't the evil, evil Mr.Snape just spare his own house's students for once? Apparently not.  I went to Draco's table, opened my potion textbook and read the recipe. An easy healing potion that I had brewed before two years ago. This would be ridiculously easy as long as Malfoy wouldn't disturb me. I just did much better work alone.

As I went to get the ingredients, Malfoy already made a fire under the kettle and set it just right. The work was, as always, really fun... until I heard a loud bang and a kettle exploded on the other side of the room.

"Ten points will be taken from Gryffindor for your unbelievable, infinite stupidity, Longbottom!", Severus' sharp voice cut through the air. Ok rude. Sev why do you have to play the evil Professor all the time? "But Sir..." "AND five points will be taken for Mr.Potter who didn't intervene or help at all!"  Now the whole course was silent, as always when Snape, house teacher of the snakes, had spoken.

"Could you please grind the snake's poison teeth?", I asked Malfoy, who had surprisingly much to complain. "Am I your house-elf? Or why do you think you have the right to boss me around, Eastwood?", was his defiant answer. Nerved, I turned away from the potion to face Malfoy: "I just asked you for something in a friendly way because we're a team. If you don't want to work with me you can just avoid me." "Pfff! I won't let anybody tell me what to do!"

My hard-trained patience really got put to the test at that point. Severus seemed to notice, so he swapped Malfoy with Blaise (yaaas) without further ado.

In the end of the lesson Blaise and I had brewed a nearly perfect potion which brought in ten house points from Sev.

"Kathrin, could you please stay here for a minute?", he asked, a rhetorical question of course. So after I had packed my bag, I walked up to his desk in the front of the slowly emptying classroom. "What's up?", I asked, slightly wondering.

"I wanted to congratulate you. On that  perfect potion, and, most importantly, that you're a Slytherin now. You should know that I'm really proud of you."

"Uhm...Thanks" was all I could squeeze out. Praise from Severus was very rare and thus I just hugged him very quickly before storming out of the classroom and almost running into Blaise.

"What'd he want?"

"Don't worry, he just wanted to congratulate me on that potion."

Blaise flashed me a genuine smile and said: "Well, we should get going now, or else we'll be late for Herbology."

"Yeah, because Herbology is soooo iinterestiiing." My response didn't sound one bit serious. Laughing, we went outside to the greenhouses and just enjoyed the moment in which nothing mattered but the beautiful scenery, the nice weather and the happy students. Oh, did that sound cheesy? Did I forget to say that it was pelting down with rain and you couldn't see for three meters? So maybe you can imagine the student's mood as we waited outside the greenhouses for Professor Sprout to finally get into a dry environment.
