Escape

Daniel’s POV

Harry took a long drag from his cigarette before he spoke. “Are you sure this is what you want? Leaving your family behind is a pretty big step.”

“Of course it is. And besides, I have a new family now. They’re more important.”

Harry nodded. “A baby on the way, you’re sure growing up fast! I take it your mother and the others don’t know?” He loaded the luggage into the car.

I shook my head. “I don’t plan on telling them either. I don’t want them anywhere near our child, if I can help it. Especially mother.”

He sucked in his breath. “Tis’ a dangerous game you’re playing there, Daniel. But I understand your intentions; you want the best for your child. And anyway,” he smiled. “I’m sure you’ll be better off without them,” He looked back at the house. “I left something, I’ll be quick.” He quickly ran inside.

Rose was in the car with Lily. I kneeled down so that we were at eye level.

“Are you sure we won’t get caught?”

“I promise everything will be fine.” I smiled. I could see Lily sceptically looking at me. She obviously didn’t believe a word I said.

A light flickered on from inside the house. “Looks like someone’s up early,” Harry came back carrying a case. He gestured to the light. “It’s dark so they won’t see us, but we’d better get going.”

Rose’s POV

I watched as we passed the house. This is actually happening, I thought. We’re actually leaving. I smiled at Lily who returned my smile only for a brief second. Something was bothering her. I knew she didn’t agree with the whole thing but I wished she would just be happy for me.

Daniel held my hand tightly as I put my head on his shoulder. I knew then that everything was going to be okay.

Meanwhile, at Harrington Manor…

Annabelle’s POV

I woke up to the bright sun shining in my face. I looked at the clock. It read twelve. “I must’ve overslept.” I muttered to myself. Today is the day, I thought to myself. The wedding day. Downstairs, everyone was busy preparing. I could hear the mother and Melanie talking. Daniel wasn’t awake yet. He must still be sleeping. I thought of waking him up so he wouldn’t be late but that would just irritate him further. If there was one thing he hated, it was being woken up.

I made my way downstairs and the smell of freshly baked bagels filled the room.

“Annabelle!” Mother ran to me. “You’re late. Get dressed and go freshen up. Where’s Daniel? He should have been up before everyone else!”

“He’s still sleeping.” I yawned.

“Well wake him up! We don’t want this wedding to start late because of his laziness.” Melanie made her way towards us. “Where is my husband-to-be? I’m dying to see him before the wedding.” She pouted.

“Oh, Melanie, you know it is bad luck to see each other before you are married. He’ll be up in a minute, don’t you worry.” Mother looked at me again. “Annabelle, why are you still standing here? Go and wake him up!”

“Fine.” I mumbled. He should be up already. It wasn’t like him to be late for anything.

“Daniel?” I knocked on his door. “Daniel?” He didn’t answer. I opened it anyway. “Daniel, wake up it’s-“
