Reluctancy
Rose’s POV
“You can do this. Just tell him.” I kept mumbling to myself. I was certain I was pregnant. I mean, we didn’t exactly take any…precautions. I approached his door and knocked. “What’s the worst he could say?” I whispered to myself as a last minute pep-talk. Daniel opened the door and a smile appeared on his face as soon as he saw me. I wondered whether what I was about to tell him would make him happier than he is now, or upset him.
“I was just thinking about you,” he pulled me into his embrace. “If we leave today, we can still-“
“I’m pregnant.” The words came out without me thinking.
Daniel looked at me, shocked. I could tell he was trying to find something to say.
“Pregnant? Are you sure?”
I nodded. I mentally prepared myself for every reaction he could have. A big smile appeared on his face and he unexpectedly pulled me closer.
“You’re not upset, are you?” I couldn’t help but ask.
He lifted my face to his. “Of course not! Surprised, maybe, but this is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” He placed his hand on my stomach.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I am. I love you, Rose.” He said, and kissed me. I was surprised but happy at the same time. Lily was wrong. I was mad at myself for even considering her words.
“Your parents-“
“They don’t have to know. We’re leaving today, have you spoken to Lily about it?”
“Yes but, I’m not sure she wants to leave. And I can’t leave without her, Daniel.”
He sighed. “Don’t worry I’ll talk to her.”
Daniel’s POV
The last news I’d expected to hear was Rose being pregnant. I could hardly contain my happiness at the thought of us having a baby together. I knew it would be hard on all of us, especially our child, if we stayed anywhere near Cheshire so I planned to move as far away from here as possible, so that our new life could be possible. I didn’t care what my family would think; I wasn’t even going to tell them. There was only one thing hindering our plans: Lily.
I’d assured Rose that I would speak with Lily since Rose wouldn’t leave without her.
“Rose tells me you’re not coming with us.” I said, closing the door behind me.
“She’s not thinking straight. She’s pregnant for God’s sake, with your child. What do you think your family will do when they find out?”
“They’re not going to find out-“
“Yes they will. They’ll be wondering where you are and as soon as they put two and two together, your whole affair will be obvious. I’m not going.” She reached for the door handle but I blocked her path.
“Why can’t you just be happy for her? She’s the one that wants you there. If it was my choice alone, I’d rather have you stay here.”
“I am happy for her! I just don’t want to see her get hurt!” she yelled. “Which is something I know you’ll do. Your wedding is in a few days. Sooner or later you’re going to realise you’ve made some mistake and then run back to Melanie and-“
“That will never happen. I love her, Lily. You know that. And you also know that she can’t stay here. She’ll only leave with you by her side. What do you think will happen when they find out she’s pregnant?”
Lily sighed. “You’re right.” She stepped closer. “Just promise me, you’re going to look after her.”
“I promise. So, you’ll come with us?”
“Yes, I’ll come with you.” She said, reluctantly.
Rose’s POV
“Did Daniel happen to speak to you?” I asked Lily.
“Yes, he did. And before you say anything else, Yes, I will come with you.”
I ran to hug her. “Thank you so much! You won’t regret this I promise!”
She smiled but it soon faded. “I’m more concerned about whether or not you will regret this. I hope you know what you’re doing, Rose.”
“Of course, I do! Daniel wants this baby just as much as I do. We’ll be fine.”
"I hope so." she said, looking more unconvinced than before.
