Episode/Chapter 7 - Faster Part 2

"What did you just say?"

"I said... Stop..."

"Huh, kid's still got a soft spot for his teammate."

Impulse struggled to get up slowly, spitting out blood to the side, "I..."

"Yes?"

"I'll be the one to do it." Impulse said, face determined.

Well, so much for the saving part... Kid Flash internally groaned.

Impulse slowly walked up to Kid Flash, all eyes intently on him, including Kid Flash's bloodshot eyes.

"Sorry... Kid." Impulse said, not the faintest glint of regret in his eyes, which scared the living crap out of Kid Flash as he vibrated his hand and thrust it into Kid Flash's chest.

"Gah!!" Kid Flash clenched his teeth as he suddenly felt a sucking sensation in his chest, as if all his blood, air, and organs in his body were being sucked out. Then seconds later, Impulse finally yanked his arm away, covered in blood, and Kid Flash knew he was too exhausted to even stand. He fell to his knees and collapsed face-first onto the floor.

"Hmph." Inertia smirked, "you got your energy back all of a sudden?"

"Yeah." Impulse said, turning to Inertia, "I feel a lot more energized now."

"Good. We need to get moving. Now that our hideout here was discovered, we have to keep moving to lose their trail."

Impulse gestured to the other four, "what about them?"

"Leave them. They'll see Kid Flash as a parting gift." Inertia smirked as they began walking off.

Impulse nodded, but then stopped in his tracks.

"What?" Inertia, Reverse Flash, and Cobalt Blue all stopped and looked back at him.

"... Someone..." Impulse muttered, not moving. He had sensed someone. He shut his eyes, then in a millisecond, he moved, and a boomerang flew right past his head and pierced the metal flooring.

"Who's--?!" The four speedsters inspected the boomerang, then Impulse knew exactly who it was.

- Five hours ago -

"What's going on?!" Nightwing asked as Kid Flash paced back and forth in the Mount Justice hangar.

"Huge issue..." Kid Flash muttered, "look, I found Impulse, and I knew where he was. So... I sent the four newbies to do some covert work."

"WALLY!!"

"I know, it--"

"What the hell were you thinking?! These are newbies! And you sent them on a mission that hasn't even been approved by me?!"

"Dick, this was all my fault, so I'm going to fix it on my own." Kid Flash said, "both the fact that Impulse is a rogue, and that those four are in danger right now."

"WHAT?!"

"That's why I came to you. I need back-up..."

"Oh, now you come to me?!"

"Dick. This is serious."

"You bet it is! You just put the four newest recruits on the team in danger!"

"No. I've been having dreams..." Kid Flash swallowed hard, "this may be the day these dreams will come true."

Nightwing looked at his best friend, then sighed, "just lead the way, and I'll follow."

"I don't need you right away. But you'll know when we're in danger. You always do." Kid Flash smiled and patted Nightwing's shoulder before running off.

"Heh." Nightwing chuckled, "I'll always be there for you, Wall-man."

"Stargirl!"

Stargirl turned to see Nightwing run up to her as she knelt next to Kid Flash trying to tend to his wounds.

"We need to get them all back to the cave. NOW." Stargirl told him, then pulled out the time machine and opened a portal back to the present.

"Let's hurry." Nightwing said as he picked up Kid Flash, "think you can grab the others with your cosmic staff?"

"Yeah." Stargirl said as she pulled out her cosmic staff and shifted the gravity so her three unconscious teammates were levitating in the air.

"OH NO YOU DON'T!!" Inertia shouted.

"On it." Impulse said as he took off running.

"Go!" Nightwing ordered as Stargirl and the others went through the portal, then Nightwing followed with Kid Flash just before it closed and Impulse missed it.

"So. Wasn't fast enough." Impulse sighed as he panted.

"You just got that kid's energy! How could you still not be fast enough?!" Cobalt Blue asked as Impulse returned to the three speedsters behind him.

"Hn." Inertia crossed his arms, "you have a long ways to go before you can surpass him."

"Kid Flash?"

"No. You know who I'm talking about."

"Oh." Impulse looked down at the floor, then back up at Inertia with determination in his eyes.

"You can still be faster."

"So?"

"So what?"

"How was it?"

"I couldn't believe this guy..."

"What happened?"

He only shook his head and sighed, "it's gone. He lost his speed."

"Oh... Could this mean something? I am going into surgery after all."

"Let's just hope it's a good sign. After all these surgeries in the past, nothing's worked."

"Well." She took his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze, "I just know it... This is it."
