"Once upon a time..."
"Uncle Bart... Again?"
Bart chuckled and held his finger in front of his lips, "shh, it gets better." Bart looked at the two children sitting on their beds, then at the baby that stared at him silently in his arms, "there once was an amazing man. He was known as the Flash." He leaned his head back to look at the lights overhead, "he was a great hero, and he gave his life to save the world. Barry is really something..."
"Dad..." Dawn wiped her eyes as she gazed out the window. Bart looked down at the baby he held with a smile.
"Amity West...." Bart poked the baby's cheeks.
"Stop bugging her!" Dan slapped away Bart's hands, but the little girl started laughing.
"H-Hey!" Bart laughed as he sat her up on his lap, "you three need to calm down. I'm supposed to be putting you guys to sleep. Wally's going to kill me."
"Yeah, you're bad at this." Wally peeked his head into the room, "kids, time for bed."
"Wally..." Bart groaned, "we're having way too much fun."
"Bart." Artemis walked in, "you're not really helping."
"Artemis! I am the greatest uncle any of these kids could ever ask for! I am thoroughly offended." Bart mocked.
"Okay, okay, calm down." Artemis walked over to Bart, "c'mon, Amity, it's way past your bedtime."
"Aww..." Bart made a pouty face as Artemis took her daughter away from him, "you know, she's never going to grow up to be like me if you keep her away from me."
"Yeah, uh." Artemis smirked, "we don't want that."
"Aw, come on! Who doesn't wanna be like me?" Bart grinned, then turned to Wally, who'd just finished tucking Dan and Dawn into bed.
"Let's go..." Artemis grabbed Bart's shirt collar and pulled him out of the room.
"Okay, okay." Bart groaned as he waved to the two twins on his way out.
Once they were out, Wally followed them and shut the door behind him.
"I'm going to put Amity to bed, now." Artemis told Wally as she went to give him a kiss, "good night. Love you."
"Love you. Sleep well." Wally smiled, then turned to Bart, "so what are you up to?"
"Well, Wallman..." Bart checked his watch, "it's eleven in the evening, so I think it's time I head to the living room and binge-watch some Dragon Ball."
"Heh." Wally chuckled, "before you do that, I need to show you something."
Bart followed Wally down to Barry's lab in the basement of the house, "this is... Gramps'..."
"Yep." Wally gazed around at the empty lab. They'd cleaned it out a week earlier after the whole incident with Inertia, "look." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a flash drive then stuck it into a computer on the empty desk. In the drive was a video file which Wally opened and let play.
The video crackled as it tried to focus, and once it did, the image cleared to show Barry's face in the same lab they stood in.
"Hey... Uh, so, I guess I'm talking to... Wally and Bart. This video was created about a week after Wally's wedding. If you're watching this right now, it means that I've probably died in the line of duty."
Bart stared at the screen, "Gramps..."
"Actually, I mainly created this because I knew about the myth of the Fifth Generation. I've known about it all this time. And if that's true, then Bart's life was in danger. I also heard recently that even after what Bart did to save me and Neutron about a year or two ago, I was still gone. I guess this is what happened, huh? I was ready to do whatever it took to save Bart. Now I trust you both to take care of Iris, Dan, and Dawn. So, I've been killed, and as the Flash of the Justice League... The League needs a new Flash." Barry cleared his throat, then removed the gold ring he wore on his finger, "you see this? You two know what this is. If you check in the... Bottom left drawer of my lab desk, you'll find something I want you to have. Well, you as in Wally. Bart, I've got an important thing for you, too. Assuming you're still alive as well. You'd better be alive, or I'll come back and kill you someday."
Bart tilted his head and found the bottom left drawer. He opened the cabinet and found that it was completely empty except for the ring sitting at the center. He reached in and grabbed it, "wait a second..."
"The Flash needs to continue on. Wally, you're an adult already. You, Artemis, Nightwing, you all belong in the League. And Wally, you can be the first of your generation to carry on my legacy. As the Flash. I trust you. And Bart, you've still got a long way to go. So you can continue on in the team as Impulse... Or, if Wally hasn't destroyed it yet, there should be another ring in the other drawer just above the one I just told you about."
Bart's hand shook as he opened the drawer above it and found a silver ring, just like the gold one.
"That's yours... Kid Flash. You've held it up for a year after Wally 'died'. And quite frankly, it really does suit you... No pun intended." Barry laughed to himself, then sighed, "well, I gotta go put the kids to bed. You know how they are. I love you both, and I trust you two to hold up the Allen family and the Speedsters' legacies. You got this. Hope to see you two someday. Maybe not soon, but someday. Barry Allen, over and out."
Bart stared at the screen as tears ran down his face.
"Bart?" Wally put his hand on Bart's shoulder and spoke softly, "do you want to..."
The speedster chuckled and wiped his eyes, "heck yeah! If Gramps wanted it, then of course I gotta do it! And you do too!"
Wally smiled with determination and nodded. He grabbed the golden ring from Bart's palm and slid it onto his finger, "let's try this out."
Bart grinned, slid the silver ring onto his finger, and nodded, "yeah!" As if on cue, the two pressed their rings and their suits shot into the air, "let's go. I'll race you... Flash."
Wally smirked, "you're so on... Kid Flash."

My name is Bart Allen, and I'm the Fifth Generation of Speedsters. I couldn't get through to Thad in the end... But now he's spending eternity in another universe with Barry... My gramps, who gave his life for me. For someone who could turn on the team. Me. But now I look back on it now, and I think that it's just amazing how far we've all come. Wally is the first from the pep squad to join the League... As the Flash. Someday, they're all going to be in the League, and the team will be left in the hands of Dan's, Dawn's, and Amity's generations. That's scary, to be honest. Everyone's growing up. Dick and Barbara are getting married really soon, and someday Conner and M'gann will too. Then they'll have kids that'll carry on their legacies as well. I know Jet's gonna be the leader of the team. He was born to be the leader, and he will be. Oh, and what about me? I'm back. Well, not entirely. I'm not back as Impulse, but Kid Flash. Christine thinks it's super cool, and she's thrilled to be back with me. Maybe someday, I'll propose to her too? No, not yet. Too early. But for now, everything's finally back to normal. And we all lived happily ever after. Haha, just kidding! This is no fairy tale. This is reality, so we're going to keep fighting. We're not knights or princesses. We're superheroes. And that's just what we do.
