Later that morning..

"Mom, Daria needs to hurry up! I have places to be and people to meet. I can't do that if Im not at school." complained Joshua, while glaring right into my empty bedroom. It felt familiar.

He stood, folding his slim arms, shaking his head full of dark, brown hair. It was as if he were a werewolf with the load of hair attached to his body. He rolled his brown eyes and eventually walking off. Like I cared.

" Daria! I swear if you don't get your lazy butt up right now I'm coming up there! " screamed mom from downstairs.

All I could think was, why not? It's your energy being wasted not mine. I knew she was still unpacking boxes and getting settled, so that meant I had to walk today.

I slowly slid out of bed. I'd probably scar little kids for life if they saw my loosely pulled back hair revealing this puffy, scrunched up face of mine.

We had finally made it outside, walking the sidewalks of this huge town, not that I wanted to be.

It wasn't that I hated the world, it's just that I disliked it with a passion. Nothing different ever happens, the people are all the same and the routines never change.

We had yet to see the inside of The Academy. Just a few more blocks I thought.

" Are you going to make some new friends Daria? " asked Joshua, concerned.

" Well, I'm not gonna force anyone to be it." I replied, as I tugged on my uniform skirt as it was too short. We were just about to pass an elderly man inspected the surroundings. What was he looking for, that answer was beyond me. There were only scrubs.

" I just- "

" Get out here m- ya kids! While ya' can! This town is in ruins..RUINS I tell ya' ! " howled the old man. Him and my brother began to argue as he basically hopped in front of us.

" Hey man, me and my sister are trying to get to school. "

" Don't go-go there! It dangerous ya' boy! " stuttered the man.

" We don't have time for this-"

" I tell ya! It was huge.. it was.. it like a dog! A huge grizzly, boy! " explained the man, waving his hands in directions that didn't make sense.

Joshua grabbed my hand and slightly shoved the man to the curb side leading me to the crosswalk. The old man sustained his actions of waving and shouted, " It was a wolf! It was real! " This caught my attention, and then the academy.

" There's the school. You know your classes right? " I asked.

" Uh.. yeah " He replied, sighing as we crossed the street to the huge Academy grounds. He knew where this was going.

" Then you know we have none together, don't bother me. See you later. " I stated then rushing off past the colossal school gates and towards the crowds of people. Leaving him behind.

I was sure he'd make friends, easy.

"Where dreams are made, and fulfilled." hollered a student, standing on top of the fountain's cement side.

"Yeah, right. What a load of crap. " I whispered under my breathe. Like dressing in a worm costume and shouting at the top of their lungs wasn't enough. No, I had to hear this nonsense.

Almost unknowingly I looked back through the crowds of people, and thought of that old man. Everything but his words were blocked out.

" It was a wolf! It was real! "
