~ Alphonse's POV ~~~>
Though I know I shouldn't, though I know it's terrible for someone like me... I feel sympathetic as she approaches the crater with a wide, disbelieving eyes.
"You were buried under the rocks," Ed says in a low, serious voice. "Have you regained any memory of what you may have been doing here?"
(y/n)'s shocked expression turns to one of calmness, and her posture slacks slightly. Her eyes glaze over, as if she were in some sort of trance.
"I was... never here."
Silence follows for a minute.
Then, suddenly, Brother and I simultaneously give a loud shout of incredulity. (y/n)'s face turns red and she stutters, "h- hey, what's gotten into the two of you?"
"IF YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THIS PLACE, THEN HOW DID YOU GET HERE?" I blurt out with astonishment. "Wait, HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW THAT YOU'VE NEVER BEEN HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?"
She blankly stares at us for a moment, pondering the question. After seconds of thought, she answers,
"Uhm... intuition?"
"THERE'S NO SUCH INTUITION FOR A MATTER LIKE THIS!!"
Sighing, (y/n) plops on the ground tiredly. "I mean, 'intuition' is the closest word I can use. This feeling, it's rather indescribable..." She trails off, narrowing her eyes.
Edward quickly glances at me. I know we're thinking the same thing.
What do we do?
~ Edward's POV ~~>
My nerves are entirely frayed. This girl is shrouded in mysteries we can't even hope to uncover, yet it wouldn't be just to leave her alone.
I feel like I'm not the only one who thinks (y/n)'s memory loss and strange encounter was not simply amnesia and chance. There's something more.
Something that could possibly do with the world of Alchemy. And when I say Alchemy, I mean the darker, deeper side of it- as much as I wish to deny it.
The Truth. Homunculi. The Philosopher's Stone.
It's a mere guess that is based off no evidence, but fate, if it exists, always has in store many surprises for us.
"I- I'm sure we'll be able to sort it out," I murmur, placing my automail hand reassuringly on her shoulder.
(y/n) turns to face me, resting her hand on mine. "Thank you, Edward." My cheeks unwillingly heat up for a fleeting second.
"Brother, someone's coming this way!" Alphonse breaks in suddenly and urgently, causing me to snap my attention to him. "What? Can you tell who it is?"
Shaking his head in what appears to be shock, Al replies, "y- yeah. It's the Führer, King Bradley!"
We wait in silence as the Führer, alone in his usual military coat with his sword sheath at his side, approaches, climbing the gentle incline of the hill. What business does he have?
"King Bradley," my brother greets, bowing his head slightly, "what may bring you out here?"
The man sighs heavily, "I do wish I could say I'm out for just a little walk, but this is for business. It has come to my attention that this is the site of the meteor crash."
Stunned, I nod, and try to keep a straight face despite noticing a flicker of fear on (y/n)'s face. "You're the one who sent us out here to investigate, right? Then what was the point of us coming here?" I ask.
"The truth is, I was going to investigate myself, but even more pressing matters showed up that needed to be attended to. You were sent out here to simply see if it were... safe, I suppose."
Frowning slightly, my body stiffens up. I can't stifle the suspicion that courses through my mind. Kind Bradley, sending two teenagers to check if the situation were safe?
If the Führer's trying to keep a secret, he isn't handling it well.
"Hmm? And who might you be, young lady?" Turning, he directs his words to (y/n) as if noticing her for the first time.
"Ah, this is-" However, I'm immediately cut off by (y/n) and she introduces herself. "It's a pleasure to be in your presence, King Bradley. My name is Rina Stryder."
Rina Stryder-? What is the meaning of this? Opening my mouth to protest at once, (y/n) or 'Rina' sends a look my way.
Time seems to freeze. In her (e/c) eyes, I see pure fear. It's as if she's in anguish, and that she's begging me, pleading for me to not say a word.
My throat closes up. I don't understand... but if this is how she feels, I think... I should trust her.
My mouth relaxes, and gratitude shows itself on her expression.
"Well then, Miss Stryder, may I ask why you are accompanying the Fullmetal Alchemist?" Bradley's one eyed gaze appears to be quite friendly at first glance... but should you look closer, it is a bit strained.
A natural smile shapes (y/n)'s lips.
"Yes, indeed. The Elric brothers came back to town yesterday, and we struck up a conversation and Edward brought up the meteor crash. It's kind of embarrassing to say, but I have a passion for the stars and astrology."
The Führer laughs heartily, "I see, I see. So you decided to come back with them?" Relieved, (y/n) replies, "that is the case. Um, is that alright? I won't get in the way of the Fullmetal Alchemist's government duties."
Dismissing her worries with a wave of his hand, King Bradley smiles kindly. "Of course, Miss Stryder. I don't see it as a problem."
We talk for a while about small, trivial things- then, (y/n) says, "King Bradley, it was an honor meeting you. Unfortunately, I must take my leave now to attend to family matters."
"Of course. Fullmetal Alchemist, Alphonse Elric, best of luck with your research." "Thank you." "T- thank you very much."
(y/n) takes my wrist and starts pulling me on the path towards civilization. Her eyes are troubled, but other than that she looks as if a weight has been lifted off her chest.
"(y/n)..." Alphonse turns to face her, and my mouth sets in a firm line.
"Why?"

Anyways, I hope you continue supporting my work although chapters will be late!
