For an overall friendly girl who got along with most people, (Y/N) had to admit, there was something about that Newt Scamander guy that she just couldn't tolerate. In their 6th year at Hogwarts, in Care of Magical Creatures, they got into this rather absurd argument about which one of them handled creatures better. It was really a silly argument, and their class mates tried to assure them that they both handled creatures well, but they were not satisfied with such an answer.
"At least I don't slam the mandrakes into their pots." He spat out, glaring at (Y/N).
"I do not! And if I did, which I don't, at least I know the proper way to take care of bowtruckles, unlike you." She countered, a look of satisfaction on her face after saying that. Newt, however, looked highly offended.
"How dare you!? I'll have you know that I happen to be very good with bowtruckles!  You're the one that nearly squashed one!" At this point, they had the entire attention of the class, and their class mates were no longer focusing on their work.
"Well at least I don't bring dangerous creatures to school and set them free!"
"They are NOT dangerous! You're just to dim to understand that! If you actually took the time to realize that!"
"Maybe if you had any sense, you'd realize that those 'innocent and harmless' creatures of yours are IN FACT dangerous! The facts are laid out in front of you in any book about magical creatures, you just ignore anything that goes against what you believe!"
"You're so strict, (Y/N), maybe you should learn how to go by instincts than facts! Only then would you see that those books have it all wrong! If any creature were to be considered dangerous, it'd be us. Witches and Wizards, we're the dangerous one, they only harm out of defense! They're just scared!"
"You say that now, but what if something happens? What if you get hurt? What if your precious creatures hurt you? Would that change your mind?"
"The only reason they would hurt me is if I put them in danger. I would NEVER do that to them, they're practically my family! What if you hurt your family? You'd feel pretty bad, wouldn't you? What if you hurt someone else's family unintentionally? That'd leave anybody with a great sense of regret and guilt."
"And where are you going with this?"
"I.... I don't know, okay? Where is ANY of this going? What's the point in arguing? Nothings going to change."
"You got that right, I'll never stop believing that those creatures are dangerous, you filthy, foul, demented, no good-"
So at this point, (Y/N)  and Newt we're in each other's faces, and to their class mates, it was pretty obvious that the two liked each other. So, an anonymous student (a.k.a, (Y/N)'s best friend), pushed the two together by their heads, and they ended up kissing. (Y/N) immediately pushed Newt away, both of their faces getting red. There was a moment of silence, other than the whisper and giggles from their classmates. Newt and (Y/N) just stood there like idiots, trying to form words, but only managed to make incomprehensible stutters.
The bell rang for them to go to lunch, and their classmates began to make their way to the Great Hall, the Professor lingered around a bit longer, but soon decided to leave the two alone, and left.
More silence passed, the two just stood there, unsure of what to do. Then, Newt broke the silence.
"..... (Y/N).. I.. I think I..." He got a bit quieter, "..kind of.. Like you.... " there was more silence. Then he slowly got closer and pecked her on the cheek, and ran off towards the Great Hall. (Y/N) stood there a second, then ran after him.
"Hey, Newt! Wait up!" She called after him. Her stopped and waited for her, and when she caught up to him, she took a second to catch her breath before speaking.
".. I think I like you, too... " she smiled at him, then he smiled back, and thus began the realization that their arguing was just a way for them to release the tension without realizing that they like each other. They both laughed when they realized that, and began to talk about how stupid they've been for not noticing it sooner.
"I'm sorry I said your creatures are dangerous..." She said, feeling guilty.
"It's fine... Maybe I could show you them sometime.. They're really quite interesting."
"You know what? I'd really like that, Newt.." She smiled at him, and returned it.
They walked into the Great Hall together, and the sounds of their House mates saying, "Finally!" or "It's about time!" as they sat down at the table, and began to talk about all of Newt's creatures and how fascinating they are.
