chapter three

"because I'm not the kind of girl
guys fall in love with..."

+

I woke up the next day in a really bad mood. But usually I become more happy when I'm with my boys, playing baseball, at the sandlot. And mostly because Benny. But I don't know about today. Part of me wants to ask who that girl was in his room and the other part of me doesn't because i don't want to start anything. We've been good for a year and a half and– I don't know, I feel like somethings going to happen... something real bad. And it's going to be all because of that girl.

Surprisingly, I was one of the first ones to get to the sandlot. Yeah-Yeah and Squints were there, laying on the hammocks.

I sit on top of the bench, criss cross. "Hey, guys."

"Hey," They replied.

"What's wrong?" I asked, noticing their negative moods.

"We're kinda upset that we have to give all our money to Benny's team." Squints responded.

"Yeah, yeah, I was going to use my money to buy some PF flyers." Yeah-Yeah sighed.

"Me too." Squints threw his head back.

"I'm sorry, guys. I'll make it up to you. I'll take you guys tomorrow to buy whatever one you wanted to buy." I said.

They shot up, staring at me with wide eyes. "Do you even have enough money for it?" Yeah-Yeah asked.

"I still have some left over money from my last birthday that I don't know what to use on. Plus, you guys are my best friends. If you're happy, then I'm happy." I smiled. They hugged me.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" They yelled.

"What about Timmy?" I asked remembering that he was also on my team.

"His parents bought him and Tommy some already." Squints waved off. I nodded.

"At least he can come with us. Probably get ice cream or something after." I suggested. They nodded. About ten minutes later, everyone showed up expect for Benny. We were all still waiting on him.

"This isn't like Benny to be late." Ham suddenly said, breaking the silence between us all.

"I know." Everyone responded. They all looked towards me, expecting me to answer.

"Oh, I don't know. Last time I saw him was yesterday in front of his house." I said, sort of lying.

Suddenly DeNunez and Bertram let out a small gasp. They turned towards me. "Luna, don't turn around."

"Why?" I asked. All the boys stared behind me with wide eyes and opened mouths. I turned my head seeing Benny walking up to us. But he wasn't alone. That girl from yesterday was there with her arms around Benny's waist and his around her shoulder. I literally felt my heart break. Like small pieces of my heart was falling off slowly and painfully, like as if a psycho person slowly rips off a band aid from their skin, making it painful.

Timmy and Tommy rested a hand on both my shoulders. "I'm sorry, Luna."

"I'm sorry, Luna." Tommy repeated.

"It's okay." Luna sniffled, quickly wiping the tears that started to fall.

"Wanna start without—" Smalls got cut off from his sentence by Benny.

"Hey, guys!" He greeted happily.

"Hey," We response back dryly.

"This is one of my close friends, Chloe." He motioned towards her. She smiled widely, waving. "Chloe, that's Timmy and Tommy Timmons, Mike "Squints" Palledorous,
Alan McClennan-we call him Yeah-Yeah, Bertram Grover Weeks, Kenny DeNunez, Hamilton Porter, but we call him Ham, and my girlfriend, Luna Rudd but I call her Duchess."
