chapter six

"I don't care if you're sick
I'll kiss you because you're worth catching a cold for"

The MRI went by quickly due to the relaxing music being played from the headphones. I believe that I had fallen asleep during the MRI. Eventually, the nurses came in and woke me up. They set me back on the wheelchair. They pushed me towards my own hospital room and set me on the bed.

"Okay, ladies, seems as though there is a tumor in your chest. We don't really know what damage it would cost for your body but we have an idea."

"Which is?" My mom asked nervously. Her leg bounced up and down as she waited for Dr. Fell to answer back. I tiredly reached for her hand and squeezed it as tightly as I could.

"We don't know this for sure but Luna might have bronchogenic carcinomas, also know has lung cancer, or cardiovascular disease, also known as a heart failure." Dr. Fell explains sadly. I literally can feel my world crash at this. "but don't worry, there's a fifty percent chance that we could be wrong and that Luna just has a cold."

"But what if you guys are right and I either have lung cancer or a freaking heart disease? What's going to happen to me?" I sobbed out. Dr. Fell wrapped her arms around me and rubbed my back as I sobbed on her shoulder.

"We'll do as much as we can to make sure you live the life you're supposed to have." Dr. Fell whispers into my ear. She pulls away and gently pushes me onto the bed. She used the remote connected to the hospital bed and moved the head part of the bed flatly down. She pushed some hair out of my face I my eyes began to close.

"Get some rest, Luna. You have a long day of examinations tomorrow." She said before I was engulfed into the darkness.

Later, I was woken up by a lot of shuffling and whispering. As my eyes began to open, I heard, "Shh, she's waking up!"

Everything was silent as my eyes became fully open. Standing in my room was all of my friends, my mom, and Benny's mom with huge grins on their face. I smiled softly at the sight of them and balloons, a bunch of teddy bears, and chocolate around the room.

     "Hey," I greeted them weakly.

They all ran towards me and brought me into a group hug. I laughed a little and hugged them back with tears forming in my eyes. They all pulled away but Benny kept his grip around my waist.

"I love you," He whispered into my ear. He kissed my cheek as he pulled away. I laid back down on my side and intertwined my fingers with Benny's.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked, glancing around at everyone.

"You're mom invited us here. She said that you were sick so we wanted to come and give you something to help you feel better." Bertram explained. Everyone nodded.

"Thanks, guys," I smiled at them.

"So, Mr. Rudd, aren't they going to give her some medicine to help her feel better and then she can come home?" Ham asked my mom.

"Yeah, yeah, we can't play baseball without our captain." Yeah-Yeah added. I fist bumped him.

"Actually, boys, Luna's condition is more serious than we thought," My mom replied back slowly. She glanced at me and I nodded, silently telling her she could tell them.

"What?" Benny asked. He looked towards me and his grip on my hand tighten slightly. "What's happening to you?"

"Talia, what's wrong?" Benny's mom asked mine. Her face was pained seeing Benny's pale face.

"Luna may have lung cancer, a heart disease, or she may not. We don't know yet." My mom explained. All the boys sat on the bay window with pained faces.

"But how?" Benny asked in a whisper.

"My mom used to have cancer but it was breast cancer. It must've skipped me and my siblings and went straight for Luna." My mom explained.

I squeezed Benny's hand and he looked up at me. They were tears in his eyes which made my heart break. I glanced at Benny's and my mom silently asking them to give us a minute alone. They walked out and I was left in a room with my friend and my boyfriend.

"Guys," I started. They looked up at me with tears in their eyes themselves. "I'm okay. I'm going to be okay. The doctors are going to do everything they can to help me. But I'm okay. So stop crying because you guys are going to make me cry."

"But Luna—" Benny started but I pressed my lips to his. He instantly kissed me back. I pulled away after the long, passionate kiss and caressed his hand with my thumb.

"I said I'm going to be okay," I said sternly. I glanced around at all of the boys. "I will be okay."

     "Promise?" They all asked.

     "Promise."

Hours later, everyone left. Benny's mom took everyone home, except Benny. He was still at the hospital with me. I also demanded my mom to go home and get a proper sleep. She responded back with a, no funny business. I'll be back early in the morning.

Benny was currently laying next to me on the hospital bed, cuddling into me. He had his arms around my waist and his head laid on my chest. I had my arms around his neck, playing with his hair.

"I scared, I don't want to loose you." Benny said all of a sudden. His voice cracked a little.

I kissed his forehead. "I promise you that you aren't doing to loose me."

I sat up and looked down on me, "how do you know that? What if I loose you? Luna, I love you. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I wanted us to have kids and grow old, and all that stuff. How's that going to happen if I– if I lost you?"

I smiled at his softly and wiped the tears that fell from his eyes with my thumb. I brought his head down towards mine and pressed my lips softly to his. Of course, he kissed back and he gripped my waist. It was the I need you type of grip. It was more of a terrifying grip. Like he said, he's scared of loosing me and his grip confirmed it. I pulled away and opened my eyes to see his stills closed. He rested his forehead on mine.

"I'm going to be okay. We will spend the rest of our lives together. I know it." I promised.

He nodded and pressed his lips back onto mine. He wrapped both of his arms around my waist and mines wove around the back of his neck absorbing the euphoric feeling of both of us together. We pulled away and continued to cuddle together. Soon enough, we both fell asleep and our light snores filled the silent room.
