Chapter 5
“HEY!” Kevin yelled as he kicked David’s door open, scaring poor Kyle.
“Dude! You broke my door!” David yelled back.
“Keep it open then you two,” Kevin said a little quieter and walked away.
“I swear, he’s like Hitler sometimes,” David told me. I laughed, being German and all.
“So ,what’s the plan for today?” I asked.
“Hmmm,” he said thoughtfully. It was still only noon. “We can drive into the city?”
“Okay,” I agreed as he helped me off the floor. Kyle followed us all the way to the front door where Kevin scooped him up.
“Have fun,” He told us as we walked out the door to the garage. Like a true rock star, David drives an old camaro.
“Like it?” He asked me.
“Of course,” I replied, trying not to drool. And then, our adventure started.
David might be an incredible song writer and have a voice to die for but he is one badass when he drives. I knew he had to be below average at something.
“Chill Jess, we aren’t going to die,” David said.
“How did you even get a license?” I asked.
“I have no clue,” He said with a laugh. Luckily we made it to the mall unscathed. It was actually pretty big. We made our way to the Sunglass Hut where David insisted on trying on almost every pair.
“You’re crazy,” I told him.
“Maybe, but at least I’m a rock star now baby,” he said. Sadly, that was true. And it only meant that he would be home a lot less. We finished up there and went to Spencer’s. I went straight to the spacers.
“What size are you at?” David asked, lifting my hair to see them.
“Only a six,” I answered. There were so many! I ended up with four and two gauge tapers and a couple size two plugs and spirals. I got some blue stone plugs and black roses, while the spirals were just white. They were pretty though. Like a gentleman, David insisted on paying.
“Chill Jess, I have too much money anyways,” He said after.
“I know,” I said and he took my hand as we wandered around. He was so funny and perfect it was almost scary.
“Ooo! Hot Topic!” I said, David laughed as I drug him in behind me.
“You are such a teenager,” He told me.
“What? I get a ton of shirts here,” I replied.
“And all your hats,” He pointed out. I nodded, Cuz it was true.
A few other teenagers recognized David and said hi. David gladly took pictures with them. He really is perfect. We finally decided to sit down and eat in the food court and then start our journey back home. One of his songs was on the radio so I cranked up the volume. David was surprised that I knew all the words.
“You have an amazing voice,” He told me.
“So I’ve heard,” I said. He sand along with me. It was so much fun.
“We should really have you on the next album,” He said.
“That would be cool,” I agreed and we decided to play a game. The first one to guess the song right wins the round.
“Alesana, The Thespian,” I said after a few seconds.
“Wow you’re good,” He said laughing.
“I have nothing else to do with my time,” I told him. Eventually we landed on another one of his songs and sang along.
“We’re on our last life, We’ll make no compromise, whatever happens, we’re fine!” I’m sure the other people on the highway thought we were crazy.
When we finally got back, David and I were so tired that we just went up to his room to watch more movies.
“Hi Kevin,” I said as I went up the stairs,
“Hey,” He called to us. I followed David all the way up to his room. He chose the movie Signs.
“It’s a little scary,” He warned me.
“Great,” I said and crawled into his arms. His arms wrapped around me and I felt a lot better.
“I’ll protect you,” He whispered.
“Perfect,” I said with a smile and he took me up onto the bed and we wrapped ourselves in his comforter. I snuggled closer into him as his hands snaked around my stomach. David lied, the movie wasn’t a little scary… No, it was going to keep me up at night for fear of aliens.
“You’re so cute when you’re scared,” he told me.
“I will never sleep again,” I said with wide eyes.
“You can stay here tonight,” He offered. I took him up on that and texted August. David and I crept down the stairs in the dark in search of food.
“Ahh!” I screamed as I fell to the floor.
“Nice one Jess,” Kevin said from the living room. He was watching god knows what.
“Oh my god, are you okay?!” David said and ran over.
“My head hurts so bad,” I complained and rolled over on the floor. David was trying to find where I hit my head and Kyle waddled over to lick my nose. Eventually, David got me up and we finished raiding the kitchen. I tripped over Kyle going to stairs but didn’t quite hit the floor that time.
“You’re just a mess today,” David said.
“You should’ve seen me yesterday before you got here,” I told him.
“Oh man,” He said.
“You should’ve seen Dave without YOU Jess,” Kevin yelled. I laughed as David flipped him off. We made it back to his room and to his bed. I ended up laying down with my head in David’s lap. He played with my hair gently.
“So you missed me?” David asked quietly. I looked up to see a soft smile on his lips.
“Of course I did, you stole my heart and ran away for two months with it,” I told him. He laughed.
“Good, I might’ve gone a little crazy over you too,” He told me. “I’m so sure Kevin hates me.”
“I should come visit next time,” I replied.
“You should! Ah, touring is so much fun,” David said.
“Where have we been? Where will we go so far? I’m not distant but this distance, makes all the difference to me. Who have we been? Who will we been so far? And my misery. No, we’re perfectly comfortable here. Did we enjoy ourselves, when we destroyed ourselves? Whatever happens, we’re fine. We’re on our last life, we’ll make no compromise. Whatever happens, we’re fine.” David sang me to sleep that night while I was safe in his arms. He might be three years older, and this may be illegal, but I stopped caring the minute he came back.
