Mason's POV

-------------------------------

I take a deep breath and Karen half smiles, "Please do tell me Mason."

"I know you want to know Karen, it's just a lot to take in. I've had a bit of time for it to settle in while for you it's going to be straight out so it's going to be a lot and you've already had to listen about what happened earlier this morning," I say.

"I know Mason but if I want to be here for my daughter, it's best that I know what might happen to her," she replies and I sigh before nodding.

"Alright well I'll start with telling you that it started when people knew Carrie and I were hanging out. Carrie told me that some of the girls at school started throwing insults at her. Then some time during Friday Brittany, the school's slut, threatened Carrie to leave me alone. I'm not sure what she said but after that, Carrie avoided me for the rest of the day and declined my offer to drive her home. Although knowing Brittany, the threat would most likely be to put Carrie in hospital. Some time after school had finished Jason was released from juvi. My guess is that Brittany is the one who bailed him out. As you know when I came to pick up Carrie on Monday morning and Jason was here. After I told Carrie to go inside, I told Jason to leave Carrie alone or I'll have him thrown back into juvi. After that he threatened me to stay away from Carrie so he can continue his bullying or he'll make it even worse. He said he'll start spreading rumours then move to pranks and it'll get so bad one day she'll um commit suicide. Not his exact words on that last bit but close enough. He still stated that she'd no longer be alive," I explain slowly to let each piece of information to sink in.

"Oh my poor baby," Karen starts to cry.

"Don't cry Karen," I coo and walk around the counter. I wrap my arms around her and she cries into my chest.

"I just can't believe that my baby girl might go through with that. I'd tell you to stay away from her but I know at the moment, you're the only one bringing her happiness and I couldn't destroy that." she continues to cry into my chest. I hear a thump close to the top of the stairs and then heavy footsteps leading away from the stairs then a loud slam as a door shuts.

"Um you don't think Carrie heard all of that, do you?" I ask nervously.

"I sure hope not. I was hoping that you could tell her lightly," she sighs. "Please go up there and find out."

"Of course Karen," I half smile and leave the kitchen. I walk up the stairs and down the hallway to Carrie's bedroom.

"You can come in," she says after I knock. I open the door to see Carrie in a ball with tear stains on her cheeks.

"How much of the conversation that your mum and I had did you hear?" I ask.

"The whole thing," she answers, not even looking at me.

"Shit. Carrie-" I start to explain but I'm cut off.

"Oh please do tell me how you were going to tell me and when you eventually would, you'd be telling me lightly. If I know anything about you Mason Woods, it's that you'll be putting it as lightly as you can that you'll be bending the truth so when all that crap gets thrown at me, I'll be walking into it head first. I'm starting to think all the stuff you told me yesterday was a load of shit," she growls, finally looking at me. My eyes turn wide. Her eyes are all puffy and red, only a fraction of her iris' being shown because of her dilated pupils. In all honesty, it's scary as hell. I'd hate to see her full on mad.

"Carrie," I gulp, looking away from her face and looking out the window before letting out a long sigh. "I was hoping to tell you either today or tomorrow. Most likely tomorrow because you had so much to deal with already today. You're right I would put it lightly but I wouldn't bend the truth because I don't want you to walk into all this shit head first."
