I woke up with someone’s arm around me. Ethan. His scent fills my nose and instantly calms me. I had another nightmare, my father’s body, lifeless. Laying on the floor with a rose on his chest and his eyes staring at me.
I wiggle out of his hold and he murmurs something in his sleep before he turns around and continues sleeping. I walk towards the bathroom to take a shower. The water running down on me, relaxes my tense shoulders and clears my thoughts. I finish showering and go to my room to get dressed. Ethan is still sleeping and I get my clothes and put them on , careful not to wake him. He looks so peaceful.
I head downstairs and start making myself some pancakes. I get some syrup from the cupboard and walk towards my seat and freshly baked pancakes. I drown them in syrup and took a big bite . So ladylike, right? I’ve always loved pancakes. My father used to make it for breakfast when he was home. He was almost never home, probably three times a month. That’s why I cherish it so much.
I go upstairs and brushmy teeth. The yummy pancake flavour replaced with a minty sensation. I walk back towards my room and leave Ethan a note saying that I made pancakes and that I’m going to be away all day. I head down to my car and make my way to town.
I stop in front of the station and see Erin waiting outside. I get out of my car and walk towards her. “Hey Erin” I say
“Kate, I thought you’re not going to come anymore.”
“Why would you think that? I’m not late am I?” I askbchecking my watch.
“No, it’s just when we talked last night it sounded like you don’t want to do it anymore” she said looking down at her hands. “I thought I scared you off. I sorta do that a lot.” I can’t help but feeling sorry for her.
“No no, sorry last night was a bit hectic. Boy troubles. I’ll tell you later. Now, come on I don’t want to be late for my first day.” There is something about Erin that makes me trust her. Maybe it’s because we’re both social outcasts.
“Wait here, I’m going to get the captain” Erin says before disappearing. I stood there wondering if this was a good idea and I start nibbling on my lip. I don’t even know if I’m going to get any information.
“If you’re going to bite your lip any harder it’s going to start bleeding” a husky voice says beside me. I turn around and saw the most beautiful human being I’ve ever laid eyes on. A dark haired guy with chocolate brown eyes, a beard and pale lips. His hair is messy and he has the kind of eyes you can get lost in and I’m not even getting started with his jawline. Perfectly chiselled. His lips looks so inviting and I can’t stop gawking at him. A man with a beard is extremely sexy.
“Oh uum sorry” I say realising I’ve been staring.
“No need to say sorry. I just don’t want you to get hurt. I’m Kai” he says reaching out his hand.
“I’m Kate” I say and I take his hand. His touch shoots electricity through my body and I yank my hand away.
“You okay?” he asks.
“Yeah I’m fine, sorry I need to go” I reply and walk over to Erin grateful that she gave me a reason to escape.
“Wow what did you do to that poor soul?” Erin ask looking at Kai.
Great Kate. You just blew your chance with an incredibly sexy guy. “I’ll tell you later. Where’s the captain?”
“Okay… I guess we have a lot to catch up on. Ah there he is” she gestures to a tall man probably in his thirties. He has dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
