"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"I'm here for an ongoing investigation, more importantly what are you doing her?"
"Uuum I'm volunteering", yeah I guess that's believable.
"In an asylum for serial killers?" he asks, raising his eyebrows.
"Yes, Kai, why do you care?" I snap. He barely knows me, why is he concerned about me?
"Woah, I was just asking. So what are you helping with?" he says raising his hands in surrender.
"Art" I lie.
"Cool, so I guess you're an artist?"
"Why are you so interested in my life, Kai?"
"How can I not be interested? You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, Kate" he says and I instantly feel my cheeks redden. How can these people come in and knock down my walls that I've spent so long building.
"Go on a date with me?"
"What?" I ask with a chuckle.
"Kate, will you go on a date with me?"
"You can't be serious" I say and look at him and he nods. "We barely know each other."
"Yes and we won't know each other if we don't do something together."
"So, what are you investigating?" I ask desperately wanting to change the subject."I'm here to talk to a possible victim" he states and points his finger to a scrawny old man. The man's skin is yellow and wrinkly, he only has a few patches of hair on his head and his teeth are crooked. His lifeless eyes dart towards me and he smiles. I shudder at the thought of what this man has done.
"A possible victim? How can someone be a possible victim" I ask and turn my attention back to Kai.
"Someone is killing all the serial killers and he's one of the worst" he says pointing to the scrawny old man again. "A total psycho, if you ask me" and he takes a seat on the sofa.
"Why are you telling me this? Maybe I'm the killer" I say with a mischievous smile and plop down next to him.
"Dunno, I trust you and you won't be able to hurt a fly."
"Well you're too trusting. You don't know me, I could be hiding bodies in my basement."
"No, I do not know you, but I do know people, Kate and you're definitely not capable of taking someone's life" he says and I feel him staring at me.
"People are good at hiding their demons, Kai, but I have to go, I need to check on the bodies in my basement" I say with a wink.
"Wait" he says while taking my hand and placing a note inside it. His touch shot electricity through my body and I'm pretty sure he felt it too, because he is just as red as me.
I tuck the note inside my pocket and walk back to the security gate. I pass the front desk and the guy is still busy reading his magazine. "You already done?" he asks and this time I'm the one who's startled.
