The monsters humanity tried to ignore for so long were too powerful in the end. So were the bombs they used to fight them. Most of the human population was destroyed.
Zombies, vampires, werewolves: they're all real, and they're all contending with the last remaining humans for survival.
There's only one thing keeping the world from falling into complete chaos: the Angels. The Angels are the closest thing the world has to a government, and they're the ones who began the Endgame. Accepting two gladiators from each of the four races, the Angels pit them against each other. The winners then get to create one law to be enforced that year, a law to keep their people alive.
The rules of the Endgame? Survive.
