Tyler had never seen something so beautiful in his life. He had been to foreign countries, seeing mountains, castles, and sunsets made with an array of colors you didn't know the world could emit, let alone the sky.
To Tyler, this boy made all of those things look black and white. He had ruby red hair, the color contrasting against his pale skin, making it all the more beautiful, accompanied with hooded cocoa brown eyes and a nose Tyler thought was the cutest one out there.
"His name is Joshua. Say hello, class," The chorus of "Hello Joshua"'s sounds across the room, snapping Tyler out of his trance. He so desperately wants Joshua to look at him, to acknowledge him, and he doesn't even know why.
"You can take a seat in that empty desk over there." Mrs. Ryan says with a smile.
His hands grip his bag, putting it further up his shoulder as he walks over to the desk. Tyler lightly curses himself for not sitting to the desk next to his. As he nervously puts one foot in front of the other, his oh so soft eyes flicker up to Tyler's, the brunette's breath catching in his throat.
He feels something rush through his stomach, his mind flicking to a million different things at once, not once settling. He doesn't understand at all what this is all about, or what it is. Tyler just thinks he's never seen such an attractive guy, that's all.
His eyes drop down just as fast as they came up as he turns to sit in his seat.
"Okay so let's finish our lesson on the notes on the staff, shall we?" Mrs. Ryan says. As she turns around, Tyler completely loses focus. He stares at the back of Joshua's head, his eyes scanning him.
That's the thing, Joshua knows people are staring, and he feels like he's gonna throw up. He hates these situations. He didn't want to move to Columbus, or anywhere for that matter. He knew he would have to face the prying eyes of people, and he didn't want that.
The bell rings, and Joshua walks out of the class first, wanting to get out more than anything. He felt eyes staring in the back of his head, and he just wanted it to be over.
Tyler felt compelled to go talk to him, just introduce himself. His steps falter on his way to what he assumed was Joshua's locker.
"Hi, I'm Tyler." He says, just a little too quickly.
"O-oh hi, I'm Josh." He says, pulling on his red locks, getting nervously lost in Tyler's dark eyes.
"How are you liking the school so far?" He asks, suddenly gaining confidence due to Josh's nervousness.
Josh runs his fingers through his hair, reluctantly but surely trailing his gaze up to his.
"I'm not sure. People look at me weird; probably my hair." He laughs. God, his laugh. Tyler decides it's the best one he's ever heard. Not to mention his smile. It was a small flash, barely there, but the dimples in his face made Tyler blush. He had never felt like this, and he doesn't understand it.
"Well... I-I like your hair." Tyler says as if the heat on is cheeks didn't burn enough, his feet shuffling as regret fills his head.
He probably thinks I'm stupid.
"Thank you, my dad hates it," He says, shaking his head as he grabs his folder and two books. "Where's Biology?" Josh asks.
"Oh, that's where I'm headed next, I'll uh- I'll show you."
-
"Okay, class. Have a seat." Mr. Turner quietly talks with Josh, assigning his seat in the class.
"Tyler doesn't have a partner. You can sit there." He says, pointing towards the brunette trying not to act like he'd been staring at Josh the whole time.
"Long time no see." Josh chuckles, laughing at the irony as he sits next to him, getting sort of nervous.
Long story short, they perfectly get assigned to be partners on the next project. The assignment was to do a presentation over the cardiovascular system, and Josh was worried. He had never been very good at biology.
-
Tyler gets home, his brain exhausted because of the red haired boy. He doesn't understand why he's always at the front of his mind, especially his chocolate eyes.
I'm straight as a board.
He doesn't understand what he's feeling, not one bit. He's nearly disgusted by the fact that he's getting worked up over a boy.
I'm a boy; He's a boy. It doesn't work that way.
Tyler tries and tries desperately to rip the roots that Josh has left in his mind out. He claws at his skin, his thoughts ripping him apart.
"Tyler? There's some chicken for dinner." His mom's muffled voice flows into the room, making him feel all the more worse. He always seeks for his mom's approval, though she always grants it. She's always so proud of him for what he does, even when it's so small. When he finishes a project, she claps and gives him a hug, telling him how proud she is of him. It's a small act, but means so much to him.
"Okay, I'll get some in a minute." He replies, though he knows he won't be eating tonight.
