As the taxi pulled up outside my home, I looked out the window and saw my humble little country home. Red brick with white windows and a white door. The grass looked like it had been trimmed while I was away, the big oak tree's leaves swayed gently in the breeze. My mother's precious flower garden took up the left hand side of our front lawn.Boy, I missed this place.
The sun wasn't shining too bright; just the way I like it. I grabbed my backpack and opened the taxi door to hop out. The driver was already at the boot, getting my luggage out and passing the giant bag to me. I took a deep breath of the fresh spring air and strolled to the porch.
"KATHRYN VICTORIA ASTON!!" My mom squealed as she opened the door- yes my mom still squeals like a teenaged girl- and ran out to give me a colossal hug. "Kit, how are you?
I missed you SO much!" My over enthusiastic mom bombarded me with more questions which I tried to reply to."Hi Mama! I missed you too." She pulled out of the hug to grab my wrist and pull me into the house to see the rest of the family.
"Hey ole boy!" He rubbed my head which messed up my ponytail.
"Hello Zach." I rubbed his head in return, "I'm not old and I'm not a boy." I grinned.
I rounded the corner to the dinning room and suddenly- BAM! Jaden and Jarron pulled the cracker thingy, the ones that make a really loud noise in my face.
"Hahaha nice try guys, but you didn't scare me." I grinned at my 12 year old twin brothers, they grinned back and hugged me. I glanced up and saw Dylan, Adrian, and Nickson playing a very intense game of cho tai ti. "Hello boys, look who's back." I said in evil grin after I stalked up on them and banged on the table they were playing on.
"Ah Kit, how nice to see you again." Adrian said slyly.
Nickson merely gave me a small wave.
"Oh no the devil has returned! Someone save us before we are eaten alive!" Dylan dramatically and sarcastically exclaimed. The evil smile remained on my face until I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Papa!" I exclaimed, giving my Papa a giant hug.
"Hello my princess, how was boarding school? Oh wait, it's okay, tell us all about at dinner."
"Don't call me princess, Pa. You know I hate it." I smile at my dad.
"Grandpa is in the hall, Kit." Mama called out from the kitchen, indicating that I must go and greet him. I galloped to the hall, so many emotions bubbling in me. I found Grandpa on his old rocking chair reading a book.
"Hi Grandpa," I hugged him,
"Why hello Kit, all excited to be back home I see."
"Yup, super excited to be back." I honestly said. Just then, a bell rang. It was the dinner bell. Since our house was so big and held so many people, Mama had the idea to ring a bell to say dinner is ready, instead of shouting for us. "Let's go eat Gpaw. I'm starving."
___________________________We were all settled down at our 12 seater table. We prayed then started the feast which Mama had prepared. She had made a delicious roast chicken, mash potatoes, green beans and carrots, corn, and dinner rolls, all with the help of Jill, our pleasant housekeeper.
"So Kit, tell us about boarding school." My father began.
"Well, what do you want to know?" You see, when people ask me to talk about something but don't give me a proper question, I have completely no idea what to say. "Ask me and I'll answer."
"Do you sleep in dorms with everybody else?" Dexter, my youngest brother asked.
"Yes."
"Is the food good?"
"It's okay,"
"What do you do on the weekend?"
"Umm, I just hang with my friends, if not then go out to town to eat and eat." I shrugged
"How many friends do you have?"
I paused a moment to count. There's Madeline, and... well that's all. "thousands." I replied."Even Jillian?" Kieran snickered. I have not seen Kieran since I came back, judging that he was the brother I was closest to, he could have shown up to say hi at least. I shot him an angry glare for bringing up Jillian.
See, She is very self-obsessed, does not care for others, is mean, and if I may add, VERY girly. A year ago, she broke my laptop into two, threw my phone, causing the screen to crack, made fun of me, etc...
"Even Jillian." I replied calmly.
After dinner, Mama suggested the children go up to spend some time together, even though I think she only said that to get rid of us so she can have some peace.
Adrian, Zach, Dylan, Nickson, Kieran, Jaden, Jarron, Dexter and I settled in the upstairs landing to play truth or dare. Yes you read that right, I have eight brothers. What's worse is that I am sandwiched right in the middle of them.
Sigh, being stuck in the middle was not fun. Anyways, let me introduce you too my brothers:
Adrian, the responsible eldest, 20 years old. He has short blonde hair arranged in a whiff. Zach was the cheeky 19 year old who had enough charm to get every girl in school falling head over heels for him. Dylan, charming 17 year old, and Nickson, the emo 16 year old who always kept to himself. I was least closest to him, he never really said anything unless a question was specifically directed to him. Those are my older brothers.
My younger brothers, Kieran, the one I was closest too, a year younger than me, 14 years old, Jaden and Jarron, the inventive 12 year old twins, and *gasps for air* finally, Dexter, the very cheeky 10 year old.
"Earth to Kit," Kieran snapped his fingers in front of my face. "Truth or dare?" I kinda spaced out a little, just thinking about my family and how much I missed them.
"Huh what? Oh, truth." I was too tired to do some silly dare they were going to give me.
"Okay, did you actually hang with your friends or sneak out to go to a wild party?" Zach asked, rubbing his hands together mischievously.
"What? Of course not. Do I look like someone who would go to a party?" I gestured to myself.
Zach and Kieran exchanged doubtful looks before Kieran said, "Yeah no. She does NOT look like someone who would go to party.
"I was looking for an Indian pun but I found naan!" Hoots of laughter echoed the landing. I rolled my eyes. "Oh are you to mature and girly to joke around with us anymore?" Kieran teased me.
"No I haven't." I snapped, "just because I went to an all girls boarding school doesn't mean they changed me. I am the same old me." I said, crossing my arms over my chest giving a triumphant smile.
"Yeah whatever." Dylan smirked
"You don't believe me?"
"Prove it."
"You're on." I grinned evilly
"Tomorrow. Be prepared to go down."
