Sitting here in class I cant help but daydream of a place where people know who I am, know what my name is. But that would be an alternate universe and I'm not that lucky. I used to try and fit in but I never was able to. I just gave up and accepted my existence as the weird girl that no one knows. This is my story.
I was on my way to my first day of high school. I thought it would be really exciting I could meet new friends and have awesome classes. That didn't really happen. I stayed with my usual group of friends and got classes that I absolutely hated with a passion. But it all changed when the new kid moved to town. He was one of those dark mysterious types that all the girls wanted. But every time a girl came to flirt with him he would just politely tell them he was busy and go back to whatever he was doing. I could only dream of a guy like that actually liking me.
The next day I found out he was in most of my classes except one. He was paired with me in a few classes for the projects we were working on before he came. He didn't talk much so I didn't either. I did all the work as he just sat there looking out into space I thought maybe he was just daydreaming but I didn't care I got the work done fine without him.
All my friends asked about him but I really didn't know him so I couldn't tell them anything. It was weird how all he did was sit there. I decided I would at least ask him what his name was. So I did in second hour the next day which happened to be Earth Science. I walked up to the lab station we were working at and asked “Whats your name?” all he said was “Carter.” That's all I needed to know so I didn't talk to him much longer I got to work on our project and that was it. That night I went home and dreamed of what kind of person this Carter was. Was he more of an artistic guy or a sports guy. Maybe a guy that liked to get in fights a lot. I might never know unless I jump and try to figure these things out.
A week or two after asking Carter what his name was I decided to have another conversation with him about where he came from I might not get a good answer but at least I tried. Right? I saw him by his locker after first bell and said “Hey Carter I have a question for you,” when he nodded I proceeded to ask my question “A lot of people want to know, Where are you from?” He just smirked and said “I don't think its really any of their business.” I admitted defeat and walked away knowing I might never get an answer.
There were so many rumors going around school about how Carter had to come here some people said it was because he got caught smoking, or doing drugs, some say he showed up to school drunk and fought a teacher. I wasn't sure what to believe but I didn't want to ask seeming how our last conversation ended with 'Its none of their business.'
