Carl's P.O.V
It's been a week since Landon's questioning. We're letting him out of his cell today for a tour of Alexandria. After observing him and spending some amount of time with him each day, Dad and Michonne have decided he's harmless. Daryl has come around a little bit too. He's promised to not make Landon feel like an outsider.I'm not so sure if I want him here to be honest. I don't like new people. Ron was new people and I see where that got me.
"Do you promise to cooperate?" Dad asks.
"Yeah, sure."
Since both Dad and Michonne are giving Landon his tour, they've asked me to come along with them. They think it'd be best if I were to tag along and make friends with him before someone else does. That "someone else" being Ron. I was against the whole idea at first but then it became clear to me that it's necessary to befriend him. For both his safety and my own.
I spotted Enid helping Maggie and Glenn do some yard work. They dropped the baby bomb after Carol noticed a hint of a baby bump; she's unbelievably observant. They agreed to go ahead and tell everyone before rumors started to go around.
"Remember," Dad says stopping in front of the jail building, "Be nice. Work with us."
"I know," I say opening the door.
I could hear talking coming from downstairs. As we climbed down the stairs, I saw Michonne standing there.
"Okay, you ready?" She asks.
___________
"Spencer's house is where we hold our meetings or whatever," I explain as we approach it.
"Cool," he responds.
We made our way to the infirmary, pantry, and then Sasha's since he'd be staying with her soon. Dad decided to show Landon where we live since him and Michonne are our cops. Again, I didn't agree with that but I trust his judgment.
Then we hear something that puts me on edge. We hear a car pull up to the gates. I freeze dead in my tracks, shooting a look over to Dad and Michonne.
"Stay here," Dad grunts, while slowly walking up to the gate.
"Take Landon and go inside the house," Michonne orders calmly.
"And leave you two out here alone? No!"
"What's going —" Landon starts.
"Dammit, Carl! I wasn't asking now go! He's early, this could be bad!"
"Come on," I tell Landon defeated.
Once inside, I hurry over to the window, peaking out.
"Who's out there?" Landon asks.
"Just some guy," I say distractedly.
"That doesn't sound like just some guy."
"He takes supplies from us. Think of him as a neighborhood bully," I say.
Still looking out of the window, I see Michonne walk towards Dad. Changing by attention to my dad, I see him pulling back one of the gates. Allowing us to see the outside world, on the other side of the locked gate, Jesus stands. He didn't look like his regular self. He looked shaken up and terrified. Exhausted. Dad yanked back the locked gate letting him in.
"That's the bully?" Landon asks.
"No, he's a friend."
Jesus was yelling and waving his hands around in a crazed manner. He was absolutely freaking out. I could hear his muffled voice but couldn't make out what he was saying. Daryl and Glenn ran up to meet the three of them by the gate. And by the look on Dad's face when he turned to face Daryl and Glenn, whatever Jesus had said wasn't good.
The front door swung open and I whip around to meet whoever was entering my house. Enid stood there in the doorway.
"Have you heard?" She asked with a disturbingly shocked expression on her face.
"No.. What?" I ask scared to hear the answer.
"He attacked The Hilltop!" She said completely ignoring Landon's presence.
Why would Negan attack The Hilltop? Will he attack us too? And right then every negative feeling I've been feeling towards her vanished. It's was replaced by the desire to protect her.
"What! When?"
"Last night! I heard everything because all of the yelling. I was outside doing yard work."
"What's The Hilltop?" Landon asks.
"Nothing, be quiet," I say turning my attention back to Enid, "What are we going to do?"
Just then Michonne ran in the house yelling, "Carl, Landon! Go to Jessie's!"
"Jessie's?!" I ask bewildered.
"Yes! Go and hide! But first stop by the armory and grab a gun for you and Jessie!" she adds, "Enid, you too!"
"What's going on?!" Enid asks.
"I don't know. We may be in some deep shit soon. Go!"
Terrified, I grab Landon by the arm and Enid by the hand, leading them out of the house. Nothing bad is going to happen to her, I'm not going to let it. I can't lose her. If I did, that would destroy me. My focus is on getting us a gun and preparing for the worst.
