"You have got to be kidding me" The guys expect for Michael groaned, I thought it was a nice name but it doesn't make any sense. Five seconds of summer, there was only four guys and a whole boatload of time for summer. It just didn't make sense.
"How long did it take you to come up with that Michael?" Calum asked and Michael shrugged, "I don't know five seconds?". Typical Michael, Putting my things down and grabbing the swirly chair and sitting in it.
"Okay, let's get over the name and just say it's his favorite season. Now, where are we going to get instruments?" Alex asked and I smirked. What people didn't know is that people perform in old rundown unnoticed bars right? If that was true then I had the perfect place. Ray's Bar.
"I got it, come with me." I demanded and got up, grabbing my things, they all followed in trace of my steps. "Alex get your keys, we are going to need a car." I demanded again and she nodded grabbing her keys. It's time I see what family's all about.
Okay, so like.. It wasn't a great dramatic walk out. We all just stuffed in a car while alex listened to my directions and brought us to a deserted neighborhood. "Dalia, are you going to kill us?" Calum laughed and I shook my head. "You guys wanna start a band right? This is the place to do it with." I said while I turned my head around looking at them. The boys and Alex looked confused, but I just let them be. "Stop, it's right here!" I screamed as Alex slammed on the brakes, sending us all flying forward for a short distance. Satisfied with her parking skills, We all got out and Calum kissed the pavement, I guess he thought he was going to die.
"Ah, there it is. The bar he was telling me about, Karma." I whispered under my breath and opened the door. It was surprisingly unlocked, I guess my father never locked the store or perhaps he was still up. "Dalia, it says their closed!" Michael pulled me back but I entered anyway. "Chill, I have it covered." I glanced at him and shrugged.
"Ray?" I called out, but there was no answer, called out again and still no answer. "Dad? I yelled this time and somebody came running down the stairs in a hurry. "Dalia, is that you? What in the world are you doing here?" Ray questioned at a million miles an hour, I laughed and pointed to the people standing outside. "We got some boys here, who would love to start a band and I figured, bars have people play at them and I figured here is the place because well, I'm your kid." I shrugged and stammered, but my father brought me into a bear hug. "Can I meet them or do we have to go outside in the cold weather." he laughed as I ran to the door and opened it, letting them all in.
Michael stared in awe as he walked over to the guitars, you can already tell he's whipped. Ashton goes and sits on the drum stool, although he looked pained by the action, I what was going on there. Calum and Luke went to Mikey and Ash as well, Alex and I stayed by my father.
Watching them, they acted like children on christmas, and boy was it a sight for sore eyes to finally see some happiness from them. They started playing an unfamiliar chord, nothing like the ones Michael sings to me for me to go to sleep peacefully. It was a happy and upbeat tone, I never really told them how good they were that night. I think they already knew, and their ego would have been boosted up.
"You've gotta let it go, you're losing all your hope. Nothing left to hold, locked out in the cold. Your painted memories that washed out all the seas, I'm stuck in between a nightmare and lost dreams " I heard Michael sing and it hit close to home. Michael and Michael's dad never saw eye to eye on a lot of things. And it was kinda sad to know it, because his dad always wanted the best for him but Michael always wanted to risk it all and live on the edge.
They played for hours, until their throats scratched from singing. Until their hands hurt from handing the instruments. Alex was asleep on the booth, she had fell asleep a while ago. Everybody except Ashton and I were asleep across the bar floor. So much for classes I guess. Ashton was staring at the drum set, almost like it was a painful memory for him to see.
When he first came to seattle college, he was a ghost. He never talked to anybody, especially girls, I always thought he was sad and that he had a bad life in New York. It wasn't until Luke had introduced us to him and him to Alex, they hit it off pretty quick but it still took 8 months for them to finally start dating.
"Ash, can we talk, upstairs?" I asked and she shrugged getting up. He started to go upstairs and I followed in suit. Once we were far away from everybody he sat down and looked at me with dark eyes and hollowed cheekbones. This boy was defiantly fighting something. "I know something's wrong, I see it every time you look at somebody who's short and has black hair also when you looked at the drum set." I sat down in front of him and tried to sound as good as I could.
"It's stupid really, it's just this girl that I used to know. She always told me to go after my dreams and never give up." he sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. Somebody he used to know, back in NY? "You used to know her? What happened to her." I ask on the edge of my seat, I know it's bad to be nosy but I wanna know what is going on in his mind.
"My brother he.. He killed her, held her hostage for a year. There wasn't even a funeral, because they never found her body. My brother was incarcerated but it didn't fix my heartbreak, seeing her would fix my heartbreak. Holding her would fix my heartbreak. Having her here, with me would fix my heartbreak. And you know what's more fucked up? The fact that her best friend had helped my brother kidnap her." He ended his sentence with a tear rolling down his face. This was way more painful than I anticipated, how could your brother do this to him?
"Ashton, what was her name?" I asked more quietly and he replied.
"Brooklyn, Brooklyn Manchester."
