I pull on my backpack straps as a reassuring manner to try to calm my nerves. Just because you have moved to another school does not mean it will be terrible. It will be okay,it will be okay. A worried sigh escapes my lips as I,and my friends, ride the elevator down to the lobby of the Avengers' Tower.
"I have never seen her this worried,"a voice says on my right,of course they said it loud enough to be heard by everyone.
"Shut up Victor,"I say in a sing songy voice as I rise on my toes and then rock back onto my heels.
"She worries A LOT,"Alex says from behind me.
"Thanks Alex, thanks,"I sarcastically reply as a cramp from worrying too much grows inside my stomach as it twists and turns just as my brain is from over thinking things.
"Are you alright?" Allie asks from my left. I don't want to vocally reply,so I nod my head 'yes'. "Wait,I thought Madeline was coming to school with us?"
"No,technically she has graduated school already. She's 18 going on 19,"Alex says and then grumbles "lucky her."
"What's it like," I begin to question the two New Yorkers "going to a big city school like this,I mean."
"It's not that bad, other than more students it's not that much different from your school,"Alex says after I turned to her and she shrugs her shoulders.
I then turn my gaze to Victor and he shrugs his shoulders as well as he says "it's not that bad."
I hope so,I mentally tell myself as my thoughts drift back to the high school I used to attend. I only had to deal with 500 other students and everybody pretty much knew everyone. A corner of my lips tugs upwards, I lived in a small town. Heck our city, way back when, was almost named Smalltown. My town, those words echo in my head as I imagine the sun gently rising above the field in front of my house. I then see myself begin packing all my clothes into several suitcases in order to begin moving into the Tower.
I see myself standing in front of my bed as I begin moving picture frames into a box marked as: Fragile. Pulling a dark frame into my hands I find a picture of Dad and Mom happily sitting on a blanket while playing with their baby girl,me. A smile tugged on the corners of my lips as I carefully placed several more frames into the box along with jewelry and little nick-nacks that I have collected over the years from the places I have traveled. The memory of my Dad and I standing there in the crowded airport fills my mind. People buzz around us as we stand in a line that leads to the help desk, the same desk that we waited at to get me to the Avengers' bootcamp.
"Hi how can I help you two?" The same blonde haired lady from before asks once we have made our way up to the desk.
"We are here to find our friend Quin,"I say as my Dad casually looks around, looking for any potential threats. "She has a flight today but I was worried the weather would keep her grounded."
"I know just where to find her,"the blonde lady says with a smile "follow me."
We follow the dark blue uniformed lady all the way down to an almost deserted part of the airport. She places her right hand on a flat white wall and a blue light begins glowing beneath her palm. The wall retracts and moves to the right, revealing a shiny metallic elevator. "Hop in,"she adds as she places her palm in front of the metal door to keep it open for us as she looks around for any threats or unnecessary witnesses.
Once we are all in the elevator a female robotic voice calls from inside the elevator, "password to operate elevator."
"Romeo,Agent 25,"the agent says.
"Operational control confirmed,"the voice replies and then the agent presses the button that says ROOF. With a gentle jolt the elevator begins moving up. Quiet surrounds us except for the soft music playing from the speaker above as I gaze at my black suitcase, just one of the many that have already been loaded onto the jet.
"I see you have successfully been selected onto the new Avengers team,"the agent from in front of the controls says and then adds "good job."
"Thank you,"I say with a slight laugh "the training was a bit rough but it was fun."
"No pain no gain,"the agent says with a slight smile as the elevator comes to a gentle stop, earning a soft ding to let us know that we have arrived at our destination.
The doors open revealing a bright sunny sky, which is definitely different compared to the rain clouds I left behind in my hometown.
"Thank you,"Dad says as we step out onto the roof.
"No problem, have a safe flight,"the agent says before the elevator doors shut behind us.
Dad and I make our way towards the jet, which is lowering its ramp, together with our matching suitcases in tow.
"Good afternoon Mr.Barnes, how was the drive to the airport?" A male agent says as he begins stowing our suitcases under a row of seats.
"Great but the weather could've been better,"Dad replies as we sit down on the seats which are directly above our luggage.
"Ah well the weather should be clear in New York,"the agent says as presses a button to close the ramp.
"How long do you think the flight will be?" Dad asks from my right.
"Around two hours and twenty minutes, depending on the wind,"the agent says as he finally closes the ramp and makes his way to the front of the plane. Once he disappears,I pull out a book from my backpack that I sat beside me.
"What are you about to read?" Dad asks as he watches me grab a bookmark as well.
"The Nazis Hunters by Neal Bascomb,"I reply as I pull back the front cover.
"You love books about the World Wars don't you?" He asks with a quick laugh.
"Yes,I love learning about our history,"I answer back as I move a few strands of hair out of my face and begin reading my book.
