"Fluttershy!" Dash screeched, grabbing her up quickly. Acting fast, she ripped up her shirt, and tied the strips tight around the top of Fluttershy's arms, trying to slow the bleeding with the tourniquet. She then bolted out to the car with the tiny, pale girl in her arms, and flew down the street to the hospital, not giving a single thought to the speed limit as as she wove in between and past cars.
"I need help, now!" she said, storming into the front of the hospital.
Some doctors who were having a smoke outside had assessed the seriousness as Dash passed by,and stamped out their cigarettes. They rushed past her, going to get equipment. The receptionist, looked at them with cold eyes,Fluttershy's ruby blood on her shirt and body. She shifted her eyes away and typed something up on her computer screen, face expressionless. Nothing like this ever happened in this town.
"What happened?" questioned a short, stocky woman dressed in a starched white uniform.
"S-she took a bunch of pills and then cut herself; I found her in the tub," explained Dash.
"How long ago? Do you know how much blood she's lost?"
"No. I came home and found her. She was already unconscious, though. She wouldn't answer the door."
"Alright," replied the doctor.
A hospital bed raced from the hall, and some doctors set her down and wheeled her away.
"We need to get her stomach pumped!" shouted the nurse. "Lots of blood loss!"
Dash resisted the urge to chase after them, unwilling to leave Fluttershy's side. She watched her be wheeled away. She was unable to keep still, and ended up pacing for a while. Finally, she rested, leaning against a wall. After what seemed like forever of being anxious for some news,a man came towards her.
"You may see her," he said, and led Dash down a bleak hallway. It seemed as if the walls were closing in on her. She felt she might trip over the tiny lines between the tiles on the floor. Hospitals gave her the willies.
He motioned her to a door, and Dash entered slowly, unable to take her eyes off the pasty girl laid in the sea foam green and white bed. She looked surprisingly peaceful, and she let her lips curve into a small smile, reminding her of the many times she'd watched her sleep with the same expression. The smile was very brief however, when she thought of how she might not ever wake up. The short moment of ease faded back to a pounding headache and a stomach tied in knots from anxiety and hunger, remembering how the last time she'd eaten was the breakfast Fluttershy had prepared for her. How she regretted how cold she had been the past few days. All she craved was some variety. She could've asked Fluttershy to a fun little date or tried to cook for her or they could've watched all the Disney movies Fluttershy adored. Looking back, she didn't understand why she was so ill and grumpy about it.
Dash cried softly, tears simply flowing out of her eyes. She always cried silently, since the actual tears was enough emotion for her let out than usual; she was used to not ever making noise or sobbing. She dragged a chair right by her bedside, holding her hand gently, focusing on the pulse she felt,a reassurance she was at least alive. Talking to her in the soft voice only Fluttershy had ever heard. She just talked about memories, hoping she'd she Fluttershy's eyes blink open and she'd awake, and they could reminisce together. Hope. She remembered when Fluttershy had made her feel that for the first time in her life back in high school. And here she was doing it again,as Dash prayed it wouldn't be the last time of Fluttershy's life.
She finally pried herself from Fluttershy's bedside after about an hour of straight talking, her voice had gotten tired. She was starving. It was around 10:45. She left in search of food, hoping when she came back,Fluttershy would be awake, and Dash could wrap her arms around her,and feel Fluttershy wrap her own around her too.
Luckily, the hospital did have a mess hall, and it was still open. She got some sliced turkey and gravy, potatoes, peas,a Coke, and a cookie. It was alright;it reminded her of her school lunch. It filled her stomach at least, and she was able to hold it down. She awkwardly went back up and asked for seconds on everything, realized how ravenous her appetite was after all. After licking the tray clean for the second time, she decided she would finish filling herself up with something from the vending machines since she felt weird asking for thirds and was sure they lady on duty would give her an odd look.
After a Snickers and a pack of peanuts, she called herself satisfied, and decided to peek in on Fluttershy again. She still looked the same, surrounded by starch white bedding, light brown hair in slight disarray, but lying on her shoulders and pillows. Dash stepped in for a moment. She sat beside her, stroking her cold hand between hers.
"Please, don't go...." she whispered hoarsely. She then bent down and pressed her lips to her forehead softly, and left her in peace.
